  • DD will be 1 in a few days, and she is not walking independently yet.  She does walk with her push-walker though.  I know another little girl (just 2 weeks older than my DD) and she's been walking since 8 months.

My husband didn't walk until he was 18 months!  Every baby meets milestones at their own pace.  I bet there are things that your child is doing that others aren't.  Don't worry too much!

  • normal. I would consider walking before a year on the early side but still normal. There is quite a range.

  • Walking is one of the milestones that has a large range.  I believe it goes from 9-18 mos.  DD didn't start walking until 15 mos.  Her cousin who's a couple weeks older than her started at 9 mos.  I have a feeling DS will be an early walker.  You don't need to worry.

  • According to WHO, by 11 months:

    • 1 in 4 babes walk alone (at 10 months it's only 1 in 10)
    • 1 in 2 babes stand alone
    • Most babes crawl

It says 50% of babes walk alone at 12.0 months, and 99% do by 17.6 months.

All different ways!  My DD was a late roller and crawler, but an early stander and walker.

  • DS will be one tomorrow and isn't walking yet.

He rolled early.  Crawled at about 8 months.  He walks with a walker, but can't stand on his own (unless holding on, or if he lets go he only lasts a few seconds).

  • Very normal!

DS has been walking while pushing a walker, or walking holding one hand for about a month.  Today, he took his very first steps by himself so I figure he will be walking independently very soon.  (Babies tend to walk early in my family).

I know two people whose babies just started walking this week, one is 14 months and one is 15 months.

  • My baby started walking at 10 months.  Long before all my friend's babies.  It's early.

  • DS1 started at almost 19 months. DS2 hasn't started yet and is not even close.
