Babies: 3 - 6 Months

to young to sleep train, anything i can do?

dd usually has 1-2 good nights a week...the rest of the time, nightmare.  she is up fussing every hour.  her fussing always turns into crying, but she isn't 4 months old yet, so i don't think i can sleep train her.  she is out of the swaddle (she kept breaking out, so now she uses the halo sleep sac), and sleeps in a bouncy seat in her crib.  the paci helps, but if she isn't totally asleep before it pops out, she cries again.  i'm going crazy...i'm so tired!

  • Why do you have her in a bouncy seat? I would try putting her in her crib free.

she won't sleep in the crib.  we tried a crib transition, and she didn't sleep at all.  so we put her back in her bouncy, and she was giving us decent stretches of sleep.

  • You said you put her in the bouncy inside the crib and she was sleeping decent but now she isnt.... maybe it is time to try putting her to sleep in just her crib now.  Maybe she just wasn't ready when you tried to transition her before and now she is.  You might have a rough couple of nights (seems you like you are already anyway) but I usually gets better if you stick with it.  How old is LO? She might be too young to CIO but you could try other things like a sound machine or fan for white noise, putting her down drowsy but awake and comforting her in her crib until she falls asleep, or maybe a consistent bedtime routine (if you aren't already) that includes a warm bath and bedtime lotion.

  • Dont know if this will help, but I have a bedtime routine with DD. We have a bath, a bottle, and story around 8 every night. And she sleeps through the night. Shes 5 months. Yours might not sleep through the night, but if you try that, she should get tired around the same time and sleep a longer stretch and hopefully that will get better. GL!

  • we do a sleep routine, but some nights it's hard when it's just me and both girls.  anyway, she gets diapered, pjs, sleep sac, lights off, bottle, rocking, and into the bouncy/crib she goes.

  • I would just put her in the crib. I use to put my DS in the bounce seat to sleep due to his server reflux . He goes into Children's Hospital of Boston for his reflux and food allergies. The 2 specialist we see there both agree that you should let you DC sleep in them due to the fact that they are at a much higher risk for SIDS . You could be hitting a wakeful period and that just needs to run it course. Maybe try adjusting bed time either way. Could be getting to much or to little sleep

Just to clarify, did the specialists say that you should let your DC sleep in bouncy seats or should not let them sleep in bouncy seats?  My husband is a pediatrician and he has never let our LO sleep in anything other than the crib or a PnP or occassionally the swing for short naps when we are right there watching her, due to the increased risk of SIDS in any other type of sleeping arrangement (carseat, bouncy seat, nap nanny, etc.).  He said that even with reflux, the current recommendations are still to have babies sleep on their backs until they can roll over by themselves.

  • Sorry Thank you I was typing while feeding DS. You should NOT let them sleep in it
