Any coast guard families here? DH is changing branches and going coast guard, and all I know is Army. I have been trying to find information out about bases, and housing and what not and it is difficult!
DH and I are both coast guard. There aren't many bases. It's definitely a change from the army (I'm an army brat). Typically its a station or a cutter. Some units have on base housing, but usually people live off the economy. The best place to find any information and discuss life in the coast guard is the Coastie Chicks website. Feel free to join. It's really a supportive group. The site is in a middle of a forum transition right now until the 14th. Feel free to PM me too.
Congratulations and and early welcome to the Coast Guard family!
DH and I are both CG and have been stationed all over the country between the two of us so if, in the future, you have any questions, send me a message.
Yay! Coasties! My hubby and I are both in the CG, grant it, there are a lot of cutters, but there are also a ton of land based units. It kind of depends on his rate.
I'm a YN (administration, clerical, paperwork, etc) and I if I can help you at all to understand what's going to happen with housing, pay, etc just let me know! I love my job , and I'd love to help you!
