My toddler needs some playtime badly! It has been nearly 100 degrees everyday and there are no indoor play places around here. How can I keep Baby safe from sun and overheating if we hit the park/pool etc? Suggestions for inside play too would be helpful, my guy needs to burn off energy and I haven't ventured out w/ 2 by myself yet! ;-)
TIA!

I don't think its possible to do the pool with 2u2 by yourself, but do you have a water table or baby pool to play with on your patio/deck? My DD absolutely loves this, she'll play for hours. I can either sit with baby in the shade (its best if toddler plays in the shade too when its that hot), or I put him just inside the house, where I can see him from the door. When its not as hot, we frequently go to playgrounds. Usually the baby stays in the stroller while DD runs around, sometimes I put him in the ergo.
Indoor activities- books, puzzles, playdough, coloring, stickers, little people, blocks, musical instruments.
Do you have any children's gyms near you like Gymboree or The Little Gym? Even if you don't sign up for a class, many places have open gym hours that are relatively cheap.
We managed 2u2 at the pool all summer last year. I wore baby in this--

I got one of those SPF long-sleeved water shirts and a hat. Worked great.
In terms of going places like the park, you can use the stroller and put the shade over LO. You could use one of those fans that spray a mist of water to keep cool.

We live in a condo and I have set up a kiddie pool on our balcony, with one of those huge umbrellas to provide shade. I usually sit in the shade with my feet in the water while DD1 splashes around. As for DD2, she is old enough to sit in the pool, but if she wasn't, I'd probably sit her in the shade by the pool in just a diaper. I was also able to find sunscreen that is safe for babies under 6 months. It's pretty pricey but you might want to look into that as well.
If it's just too hot, I might take the kids to McDonald's. I get DD1 apple slices and milk and I let her play while I just hang out with DD2. The grocery store is also a fun expedition for DD1 - ours has those kid-size carts, and she just loooooves to push hers around. Just make sure you go when there aren't too many people so you don't spend your time chasing your oldest and yelling Nooooo! lol
When I had toddler + baby I did water table or baby pool outside. I didn't do the pool for safety reasons (16 months apart) unless someone could go with us.
We do have one park with lots of open space and ducks so we would walk there and DS would sleep in the stroller. I made sure te sunshade was extended (we have a baby jogger so it's huge) and I got a stroller fan. It's normally 105 here and dry so the mall and Gymboree was part of the routine as well
chick-fila or mall playground.
