I posted this over there to see if I could get any advice, but I also wanted to ask some of you all to see if any of you have had this issue:
My 3 month old just started doing this yesterday and I can't for the life of me figure out what is going on. I've looked on KellyMom about "distracted" nursing, but I don't think that's it...he does something very specific: He sucks for about 5 sucks, then unlatches, turns his head to the other side, then turns his head back and starts trying to latch back on...he does this over and over. I try burping him, changing him then putting him back on, putting a blanket over my shoulder and his head just in case it is distraction, suctioning his nose in case he's stuffy and can't breathe ( but it doesn't sound like he is and nothing comes out)...I'm running out of ideas. He's fighting sleep SO hard, so the only thing I can think of is that he doesn't want to sleep, and being on the boob makes him sleepy? Also, I thought maybe he was full and wanted to suck, but just didn't want milk, so I put a pacifier in his mouth when he unlatched one time, and he just stared at me and smiled with the pacifier in his mouth, and didn't suck...LOL. Does anyone have ANY ideas what could be his issue?
Re: XP on BF board: Popping on and off breast
I'm seriously wondering if it's teething...he seems to have the other signs too...oh boy.
Sounds just like mine.
Madison is doing something like this, as well. She will try and relatch herself like she is starving even though she pulled off. It's usually 1 of 3 things, she's either gassy/pooping, tired or my flow is too slow at that time. I usually taker her off to burp her and she takes care of whichever of the 3 issues it is. Good luck!
This! I tell her to stop playing boobie games and eat. It's very silly, and I will take her away from the breast and play with her a bit, then try again.
Sometimes she does this and fusses, and then it's usually gas or she's working on a poop.
First: Chelsey, your siggie pic is SO CUTE. He's adorable!
DS does this a lot as well, and it's not the same as when he's just playing with the boob. I always wonder if it's bad taste, slow flow, overtired, not really hungry, etc etc. I have no idea. The other day I popped a paci in and he seemed much happier, so that time I think he just wanted to suck but didn't want milk. But that's not the case every time. It's annoying but probably nothing to worry about!
