Babies: 3 - 6 Months

4 month old fights to go to bed!

My son will be 4 months on 7/9 and for the past week he has been fighting with my husband and I to go to bed.  He normally goes down around 8:30 and will sleep til 6 until I have to wake him up to go to the babysitters.  The past week it's been 10, 10:30 or 11 before he finally gets to sleep.  He usually gets his last bottle around 7:30 depending on his eating schedule for that day.  He gets a bath, a story and some relaxing time with us on the couch before he goes to bed.  Lately, that's not the case.  He's been fighting with us!  We usually end up giving him like 2-3 oz in a bottle, he drinks a little then passes out.  He is still being swaddled, but gets his arms out by morning.  Other than that, he sleeps great through the night after tat battle. What is up with my son?  Any suggestions on how to win this battle?

  • Other than my LO being older...we're having the EXACT same problem...same schedule too. He used to be down by 8:30, our till 6. Now he fights us and wakes up several times cranky or wanting to play! I have no advice unfortunately, but I'm hoping for the both of us it's just a phase.

Definitely. My best advice is to keep doing what you're doing and remind yourself this phase will be over with soon! I'm on the other side and can vouch for it :)

  • It's so stressful, makes me want to cry sometimes.  We don't let him cry longer than 20 minutes in his crib because he SCREAMS. Tonight, we picked him up at my in laws at 9:15 and he had 2.5 oz more before he went to sleep.  He has been asleep for almost a half hr...usually after that, it's safe for this mommy to go to sleep and daddy stays up for another hr or 2...Here's to hoping that this only lasts a few more nights and not the rest of July!

I was crying earlier today, and I am a month ahead of you. So I feel your pain.
