Dynamic Cervix?

Hi ladies,

I could've sworn I saw a post here yesterday about this but now I can't find it. My trip to the hospital today revealed that I may have a dynamic cervix, where the length fluctuates. Anyone have any experience?

Re: Dynamic Cervix?

  • Me. I was put on bedrest and given Crinone progesterone supp's at 24 weeks. Today I'm 37 weeks, and very grateful to have made it full term. Stay positive and if you have ANY questions please ask.

  • I had a dynamic cervix with my son.  And did moderate activity and progesterone suppositories. And went to 36 weeks.  I think what is important to understand is that it MAY or may not be "such a change" in your cervix each time its measured. I am sure I said it in another post like this but the best way I have had it explained to me by my Dr., is that the measurements are done by a person putting "dots on fuzz" so while there might be slight changes they can look significant based on whose doing the measuring each time. One persons view may be better then another. Also your positioning (ie if you cross your ankles during the measuring) can also affect "whats seen". So don't get so caught up in the numbers completely. Take I easy of course but don't let the numbers stress you out.

  • I've been told that I have a dynamic cervix. I have been monitored since 20 weeks for a short cervix and twice I had ultrasounds that showed a cervical length of 2.4-2.5cm with funneling and I was sent right over to the MFM (both times I had a second u/s within the hour) and what do you know my cervix was back to measuring around 3.0 with no funneling. I was taking progesterone suppositories, Procardia, and on bed rest for awhile but I got to stop that all at 35 weeks.

  • Wow you guys are making me feel alot better. I just joined Thebump.com about 10 min ago, so i'm new to this. This might be kind of long, but I have a 5 year old son who I went into the hospital with at 22 weeks for some spotting and contractions. They have me steroid shots to help him develop and I was put on bed rest. I went back into the hspital at 26 with the same symptoms and had him via Emergency C-Section. He was 2ib 3oz and is doing fabulous now. Anyways, I am now 20 weeks pregnant (21 weeks on Monday) with another boy and when I found out I was pregnant I was terrified I would have this one early as well because doctors were not really sure why I had my first one so early. So when i hit 17 weeks I started weekly progesterone shots. Well I went to the doctor this past Tuesday with what I thought was a kidney infection because my back was hurting horribly around where my kidneys were. Turns out my cervix was short, measuring 24 and extremely thin, but still closed. They sent me to the labor & delivery floor to be on a monitor and it showed I was contracting. My doctor put me on bed rest. She said right now because i'm still so early there still is not alot they can do to help me. So I went to a high risk doctor yesterday (friday), my cervix was measuring 35 and not thin. So I looked better, dr thought it was due to being off my feet. So i'm still on bed rest, i'm still just terrified i'll have him early again. I have to go back to the high risk dr next week. So I guess i have a dynamic cervix too. Sorry this was so long!! I;m still new to all this.
  • I went from measuring 2.3 at 20 weeks to 2.8, then 1.8 at 23 weeks. I started the Progesterone twice a day at 20 weeks with no exercise, no lifting anything over 5 pounds, no sex, etc. It went back up to a 2.4 a few weeks later then a 2.8 again. (I'm checked weekly for this). When I was 20 weeks, my OB's goal was to get me to 30 weeks (!) I'm now 31 weeks, 3 days and it's 2.7. She says she sees no reason I won't make it to full term but to continue what I'm doing (or really NOT doing) and Progesterone daily until 36 weeks. Hang in there. It's terrifying and I cried constantly when all this started happening but just follow your OB's recommendations and don't hesitate to call her if you have questions. Every day that went by was quite the milestone. Every week that went by I could breathe a little easier. Good luck!
