Hi Ladies,
I'm a Detroit Nestie/Bump gal. My husband is starting a project w/Target for a few months, so we are going to visit him the first full week in August. He travels for work M-F and comes home on the weekend.
I was wondering if you had some recommendations of what I can do w/the kids (ages 4 & 2) during the daytime while he is working (and also any good restaurants too). I already plan on the Mall of America (I've been there before) & we'll be doing a game at Target Field (we're hitting all the baseball stadiums & have done the Metrodome, but want to see the new field).
TIA! :=)
Re: Detroit Nestie w/question
Depending on where you're staying, you could check out the MN Landscape Arboretum, which is in the southwest metro. It's a really neat place with lots of flowers and trees and kids can run around. If they like water, you could go to any of the lakes in the city. Medicine Lake in Plymouth would be great, as it's a smaller and quieter lake.
Have fun!
Como Zoo (Free)
Minnesota Zoo
Children's Museum
Science Museum
Edina Aquatic Center (outdoors) or Waterpark of America (Indoors across from the Mall of America)
Sculpture Garden
Make sure to go to MOA on Tuesday as it's Toddler Tuesday & it looks like that week is the BIG MOA Birthday party. along with fun kids activities until noon kids eat free at a few places & there are other great deals that day

Yes, I did, graduated in '97. Not many people get my screen name.
Hi there! I'm a former Detroit girl myself, living here in the Twin Cities.
First week of August starts the Fringe Festival here, and they have kids shows. Here's a link to those:

I second the Landscape Arboretum. I'd also suggest the Sculpture Garden and the playground at Lake Calhoun, possibly even swimming there.

Great restaurants:
Some of these are good for families with kids, others not so much. In no particular order (though heavy towards the North side where I live)
Psycho Suzi's Motor Lounge (Tiki themed bar and restaurant)
Pizza Luce (chain, there's a number of them in the TC)
Travail Kitchen and Amusements
Victory 44 (I take my 5 mo here all the time)
Wakame Asian Bistro (we often have our daughter on their patio, but not in the restaurant proper)
Burger Jones (great for kids)
El Loro (Mexican)
Papa's Pizza and Pasta (little neighborhood joint, great for families, amazing cheesecakes also? Gelato)
Fifties Grill (50's themed restaurant, waitresses in poodle skirts, all baked goods made fresh from scratch there, comfort food)
