STM - come in if you have a 2yo, a car seat ?

DD is currently in a Britax Boulevard. It seems like it is too wide (from front to back), cause DDs feet are cramped in between the car seat and the back of the front seat of my suv. My SIL mentioned that there are car seats for 2yo-5yo, but its not a booster, its just one that they sit more "straight up". Anyone else having this problem? i figured that if I had to get something new, I could get it when I get the rest of the stuff I need for the new baby......

My 5-year old is in a Graco Nautilus and we have the same problem with it being too bulky for her to really get her feet down and comfortable.

A friend of mine uses the Sunshine Radian seats for her kids once they're out of the infant carrier, and it's a *much* slimmer carseat than anything else I've ever seen. The safety ratings are excellent, and because it's metal instead of plastic, the seat is "good" longer - as in, I think it lasts 8 years instead of 5.

We're considering picking up a Radian and making the Nautilus a back-up seat so that our daughter can sit in the back and keep her feet off the back of the passenger seat.

DS is in the Radian.  It is very slim and we love it.  We're going to keep DS in this and may buy another one when DS #2 is in a convertible seat since it's not too bulky and he has plenty of leg-room.  We also have the cosco seat in DH's car and it's much bigger, so I am not sure how it's going to fit next to an infant seat.

ETA: The radian is also a convertible seat, so you don't have to wait until forward facing to use it.

  • We have the Radian RXTs and love them. They are narrow and even fit in airplane seats. They are upright when forward facing and leave plenty of room. They come with a cup holder as well but if you needed to you can fit three in a backseat. They also turn into a booster when your kid is ready. The seat works from 5lbs rear facing all the way to booster 120 lbs.

They can be pricey but we watched for sales on a few sites. Once in a while Amazon has the radian rxt with a free carrying bag for $290.

Justkidsstore.com has them for $270, free ship

  • DS is in a Graco MyRide65 that was purchased in Oct 2010. He is 18.5 months old & 32 inches tall. He has a good amount of room. I have a Mazda6.

eta- I read your post as if you were asking if anyone had a 2-yr old carseat! haha, sorry. But anyway, the seat I have holds up to 65 lbs, so it still may be an option for you.

  • DS is in the graco Myride 65 and I do find that he doesn't have much room between his feet and the seat in front of him, unless I move the seat in front of him forward a lot.  I'm pretty petite so I can fit in the passenger seat and let DH drive if we go somehwere.

We have the Britax roundabout 55 in DH's truck and there isn't a lot of room there either.

is your sister talking about a high back booster with a 5 point harness?

    something like this:

might give your DD a little more room, not sure how much she weighs if she is eligible for something like this?

    ETA sorry not clicky

  • We have the Graco MyRide65 and DD is about 37" and I have felt lots of kicking on the back of my seat....as like PP I have heard that the Radian is the best rated, smallest carseat.

My plan is to get the Radian for DS1 when DS2 is ready for the convertible carseat. DS2 will move into the Britax marathon that DS1 is in now.
