No iron in gummy prenatels...

I have been taking the gummy vitamins and they really are easier on my stomach. Well a few days ago I noticed they had no iron and so I grabbed some iron vitamins and started taking those today with my prenatals. I'm assuming I take one? I will double check with my midwife next Friday when I go in for my 2nd appointment. Also thought I would mention it on here in case anyone did not know the lack of iron in these.

Re: No iron in gummy prenatels...

  • My bottle says it's because the product may appeal to children. I have some gentle iron that I need to start taking, but I always forget. Also, the iron missing from the gummies may be why it is easier on our stomachs.

That is what I figured which means that once I am out of these I may just go to regular prenatels.

  • The American Pregnancy Association recommends 27mg of Iron per day for pregnant women so just compare that to the iron pills you have and take what you need :)

  • I would check to see if they have calcium in them too.  I was taking gummies and my midwife was concerned about the calcium, not just the iron.  You can always take a supplement or just make sure you get enough calcium in your diet, but I found it interesting that she was seemed just more concerned about calcium as iron.

ETA: I was doing the iron supplement but because it had more than the recommended amount I took it every other day to make sure it wasn't too much, which can be a concern from what I've read...

  • I take these too. My OB wasn't too concerned. She said i could get the iron and calcium i need in my diet by eating enough dairy and greens/red meat But we are going to take a look at my routine blood work at my next visit to make sure I'm not low on these.

Oh I will ask her about that! The iron in my supplements are a lot more then what is recommended!
