3rd Trimester

Not feeling braxton hicks

I've only felt braxton hicks a couple times this pregnancy.  I'm still having them though right?  I'm just not feeling them?  Could this possibly mean that my contractions during labor wont be as intense?  I've read a couple stories about women not feeling BHs and only laboring for like an hour.  That would be great! lol

Re: Not feeling braxton hicks

  • I've never heard anything about the correlation of BH and real labor contractions; but, I haven't had any BHs since about week 33ish.  I asked my doctor and she said that was perfectly normal and that period cramps, tightening of the stomach, and BH are essentially all the same.

  • I've actually never felt BHs with this pregnancy or with my daughter. And not to be the bearer of bad news, but that labor was no picnic :)
  • With my first pregnancy, I dont remember feeling a single BH. And as pp mentioned, labor was no picnic! I was in labor for 18 hours and had major back labor b/c DS was sunny side up.

I have had BH for several weeks now with this pregnancy. Soooo....here is hoping my labor is easier this time around!

  • I haven't had BH with either pregnancy. Not to be the bearer of bad news but labor contractions are totally different and a complete ***.

  • I think you should just feel lucky now. I think any correlation to labor is pure coincidence.

  • hehe.  well, i still remain hopefull!  I have had that mild menstrual cramp feeling a couple times.  Didnt think it was BH though because I've never gotten that "rock hard" stomach feeling unless LO is positioned a certain way but thats generally just his big butt.

  • Definitely no correlation between BH and labor contractions.  I never felt them with my first and had a 52 hour labor.  Labor contractions didn't get intense until I started stressing out from hospital staff being stupid with me.  Read "Childbirth Without Fear" or "Hypnobirthing" to see how you can help have an easier labor.

  • I haven't had any BH's with any of my pregnancies.  With my 1st, I was actually contracting but didn't know it.  However, had to get pitocin and holy hell!!!  Ended in c-section.  With my 2nd, my water broke at 37w2d and no contractions-c-section!  Let's see what this one brings!

  • I am almost 32 weeks and have never had a BH.  I consider myself to be lucky.

  • I never had BH with #1 and had a 23 hr labor. I've never heard of a connection, but hopefully you have a super short labor. 1 hr would be amazing!
