Hi ladies -
I thought I'd share something practical that I also shared recently with a local loss group and a lot of people found it helpful.
The type of paper ultrasounds are printed on is super fragile, and will fade over several years. Ultrasounds were such a huge part of my pregnancy, and they are the only pictures I have of my twins together. I recently started archiving mine, and the project has been really cathartic.
I think scanning is the best way to do it, or in lieu of that, taking pictures of them. I didn't have a scanner and I got this one on Amazon and it works GREAT for scanning ultrasounds. It's a pretty good quality. It's almost as pricey as a flatbed scanner, but there are other less expensive options.
I'm putting mine together to make a baby book for my daughter. It's so nice to feel like I can fill a book and include these ultrasounds, instead of only having the few that were taken during our hospital stay. I hate that I have such a finite number of pics.
Anyway, like I said, putting together this photo album, scanning all of my ultrasounds, and spending time doing something for my daughter has been so comforting. It's taken me a year to feel ready, but now that I'm doing it feels really good. I'm using papercoterie.com to make the album with the scanned images and pictures from the hospital (I've used them before and those are great), but there are also sites like snapfish.
Hope this helps someone!
Re: PSA: Archive Your Ultrasounds!
Great Idea! I actually started doing this from the beginning of our pregnancy. We wanted to create a brag book for grandma. Although our loss was just on Monday, I am on LOA from work until August and still plan on doing a few remembrance books as soon as I can look at the pictures without crying so much I get them wet. My husband and I may have lost 3 sons, but there is also a brother who lost 3 nephews, and a Grandmother who lost 3 grandchildren as well. We only have 1 picture from them after their birth, so our ultrasound pics are all we really have.
We have a flatbed scanner as well as a wand scanner from QVC, but I am sure you can take them to a copy center and have them saved to a disk or thumb drive as well.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your three sons. I started reading your blog start to finish, and I'll have to go back later to comment. I'm so touched by your story and again, I'm so sorry for your loss.
I totally understand about looking at pictures - it has taken me a long time. So glad you are on leave for awhile!
Thank you so much for your support and kind words, it means a lot.
