Woot.. got me a baby cam

I've been wanting this cam for a long time but it's pretty pricey in most places..180-300+++ dollars.  Our local Frys have them at $229... saw it on offer on Amazon for $150 a month or so ago but when I went to get it next day the price was back up to $189.  Saw it back on offer again last night so I grabbed one, it will be here tomorrow... can't wait to get it hooked up :)

It has night vision, 2 way audio and can remote pan tilt and zoom features and can be controlled online or by smart phone.  Its perfect for us since hubby works nights.. and I am hoping it works like my old night vision digicam, black light bulbs make the night vision like green daylight...but you can easily sleep with those  bulbs.

It has password protection so I can lock everyone out but hubby if I want to and open it up to relatives now and then if we choose.  I can also keep an eye on munchkin when I am at work too :)

........doesn't hurt to be able to keep an eye on our apt when we arent home either :)

totally chuffed ( Brit for very happy ) lol

It sucked that one of us was always pretty much missing out on new things so now we can hopefully share more of LO's "first's"

Will do, the resolution isn't fantastic but the other features more than make up for it and I have  other cams for general chitty chatty programs with better resolution.

  • We got a crappy Mobi cam for our shower and it was awful. It felt like watching baby Paranomal Activity. We upgraded to the Motorola one with the big LCD and it's awesome. I sleep so much better now that I have a monitor to depend on!

  • Sounds awesome! We have already used 2 way chat on ours a lot. I'm sure it will be even more convenient when dd is a toddler.

Ok BabyLynn. got it set up.... the night vision is really good and its black and white not green like my digital cam corder. Didn't need any black light at all to help this one out.... Hubby thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread and actually suggested getting another one...or two for other rooms so we don't have to keep moving this one.  He absolutely loved being able to hop in and see us at night while he was at lunch or breaks last night. HE could even tell me which of my kitties slept on the bed last night, which is pretty impressive when I have 4 cats.

For me I like it...I'm a bit spoilt with cam quality since I used a digital cam corder with USB streaming for a long time, so I am used to high quality picture... this isnt bad but it's sure not as good as my cam.  The lighting/color is a bit tricky but  that could be as much an issue with us being in an upstairs apt and the heat here means we have the curtains shut a lot.  It seems like if the cam is too close to LO he looks kinda bleached out and rather demonic.. haha   ( it's actually kinda cool) but I would imagine since the cam is not really designed for up close  monitoring that is why, distance makes an improvement in that.

The Android app is ok, and if you up the pan and tilt angle settings it doesnt take so long to move the cam.  I havent attached speakers yet but the 2 way audio def works, we tried it with headphones... the confusing part is the buttons on the phone app seem backwards,.. the speaker is actually the mic and the phone looking thing is the speaker lol.

set up wasnt bad at all, I had to fiddle around with my router a bit to reserve some IP's and configure a port instead of the default port 80... but if you don't have as much hooked up to your router as we do it should be pretty straight forward.  We have a lot of stuff hooked up in this house <<< is a geek

Recording is only available using the internet app not the phone app and I think the logins for family and friends only works on the phone app .. MIL had probs getting it to work in her phone browser.. but that might just be her lol. the admin login worked for her tho.

Still have to try out the other gidgets like motion sensor etc  but for a "webcam" it's not bad at all and I'd def buy it again. Aside from using it as a baby cam, it's also a cool gidget to keep an eye on our apt when we aren't home  :)

Ignore the mess lol.... this is a picture taken with cam about 5 foot away from the little man, the camera is sitting on the top of my computer case, about 2 foot off the floor... curtains are open, but blinds and white liners are still closed. and we don't have direct sunlight in this window anyways.  So it gives you an idea of how it looks... His pants are actually bright red tartan, but as I said the closer the object the more washed out it is in this light...still playing with configuration to get the best picture possible in our situation.   image
