My husband had an ultrasound and was diagnosed with a varicocele. I did a quick search on this board for "varicocele" and nothing popped up, but I know I've seen it mentioned here before. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me about this? Feedback about treatment options and their effectiveness? This is admittedly premature, since we don't know the full details yet. He will have a follow up with his doctor next week. But I'm panicking right now. I've been reading some stuff on Google, but staying with NIH articles. (I try to at least read academic material for things like this so I don't put myself into a frenzy.) I'm feeling very, very sad about this today. It probably doesn't help that I'm on CD2. I just always assumed that if there were any issues, they would be with me since I'll be 35 this year.
Re: Unexpected varicocele diagnosis
Sorry you got such tough news -it is never easy. I don't know any more about varicoceles than you probably found reading articles, but it might also be helpful to search 3T for information. I know several women over there have DH's with the same diagnosis.
I hope you are able to get more information from your husbands follow up with his doctor next week. ((hugs))
We discovered my husband had one back when we were first dating. They removed it via out-patient surgery. Because of the way it was situated, they had to do half a vasectomy - so only one of his boys shoots live ones. The vasectomy portion of the surgery was optional, but we decided to go ahead with it because it was going to ( and ultimately did) alleviate painful ejaculation. Before the surgery, we requested that they test his sperm count and since it was well above average we felt comfortable with our decision. Since then, it has not been an issue and he is pain free. We haven't a problem getting pregnant, either. At least, not yet.
