If you use Mirena...

Do you like it? I'm thinking of making an appointment to get it, because although I went 9 months never forgetting my prenatal, taking my BC every day Is apparently too hard for me ...as I've forgotten SEVERAL times and has extra periods because of it...fun!

Re: If you use Mirena...

  • I love my Mirena.

When I first got it, it was painless.  However I did have pretty bad cramping for about 6 weeks afterwards, accompanied with bleeding. Sometimes just spotting and other times it was more heavy.  Dr. says that's normal, it's just your body trying to adjust to having something foreign in your uterus and not everyone even experiences that.  But it's great not having to worry about the pill or patch or ring or whatever else.  We're not planning on TTC again for a while - if ever at all, so it's definitely worth it for us.

     Good luck! :)

  • I love it. For me it was super easy and painless. I had some mild cramping and spotting but nothing significant. We are one and done but insurance won't cover a tubal so this was a great option, not that my insurance covered it either but the expense was more manageable.

  • I got it at my 6wk PP check up. It was like getting a pap smear. I have not had a cycle since February:) Although my cramps seem a little worse, but I can handle that.

  • I got mine put in 8 weeks PP.  I freaked myself out thinking it was going to be painful (wtf, I just had a baby, and wasn't nearly as nervous about child birth).  It was painless, for me.  I didn't have any spotting and never had a PP period.  I love it.  We only plan on having one child, but I didn't want to make any permanent decisions.  This is works best for us, for now.

  • Love Love Love! I couldn't remember to take my prenatal (I know, terrible) so I knew the pill was not going to work for me. Now I recommend it to all of my friends who don't want children in the next few years (or ever). I did bleed for a while afterwards and have had some spotting and one period since then. I think its just the body trying to adjust after baby.

Completely agree with all the above.  I did take some ibprofin before going because I was so worried.  It was a cake walk! and Love it!

  • I love it as well!  the first month or two were kinda crappy with the what seemed like endless spotting.  But that has come and gone now and it's amazing!!!  I did notice that my depression kinda got worse which my OB said was normal for some people who have a previous history with depression.  He just upped my anti depressants and now it's perfect :-)

  • I got mine in at 6 weeks pp, and dd is now 5.5 months. So far I love it. I tried several brands and types of pills, and couldn't find anything that didn't make me completely insane! So far the only side effect I've had with Mirena is a difficulty losing weight (I still haven't lost all my baby weight) but I can deal with having to work harder for the light periods and not having to worry about forgetting anything. I

Other people seem to either love it or hate it. If your insurance pays for it, then if you hate it, all you have to do is get it removed, and problem solved. For me, it was worth a try, and I'm glad I did.
