SPD/PGP anyone?

I have had mild SPD/PGP with my boys but I swear it wasn't this bad until the very end. Also with the first two my pain was all in front and now feel in the crease where my thigh meets crotch and mainly only on the left. I can't sit in my dining room chairs or I can barely walk the rest of the night. :(  Luckily hard chairs seem to be the only really big trigger at the moment. (besides sleeping, obviously.)

Anyone have any tips or tricks to keep the pain to a minimum? I see the MW Tuesday and am seriously debating seeing if I can do some PT. *Sigh* isn't pregnancy fun?

Re: SPD/PGP anyone?

  • I have been dealing with SPD since 17 weeks.  I started going to physio, and it has helped some, but basically they told me nothing short of delivering the baby will make it go away.  A few things I found helpful are a support belt, ice, and doing some excercises that my PT gave me in the water.  Being able to get in the pool really seems to help the pain!

    Hope you find some relieve!

  • Oooh, good to know about the pool! My parents are in the middle of having one installed and i was already planning on taxing their hospitality to the hilt :)

I wonder if it is something that gets worse with subsequent pregnancies?

  • I am convinced that I have this, and I see my doctor next week. I cannot wait to talk to her about it to get some advice. I'm miserable.

When I roll from one side to the other at night, I wake up in pain. When I first stand up after sleeping or sitting for a while, it's hard to walk. Yesterday morning I actually stopped in my steps because it hurt so bad.

I have found that if I basically roll my pillow into as much of a ball as possible, it's somewhat relieving, but it doesn't stay like that all night.

Any tips for pain relief/management are welcomed here!

  • Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (seperated pelvis) and Pelvic Girdle Pain

From what they tell me, it does get worse, but this will be my last baby so if I can just make it through the next two months!  I think I had a mild case with my second, but it was misdiagnosed as SI joint pain.

From really, really basic research, I believe PGP is the new go-to term or diagnosis for SPD during pregnancy. (same thing, new name) It sucks.

  • I found positioning exercises (spinningbabies) to be the most helpful. When DS is properly positioned its hurts a lot less. DD was transverse until about 34w and I could barely walk. DS, OTOH, has been in position since my a/s and it's sooooo much better. It still hurts to lie down, roll over, do stairs, lift any weight, but at least I can get dressed by myself this time.

Swimming doesn't do much for me.

It hit earlier this time around (10w vs 26w). But I've got a friend who suffered very badly with her first and not with her second so there's no hard and fast rule.

  • even with physio there is not much that can be done for pgp. im in physio 2x weekly for it and we focus on core exercises to strengthen the muscles that support the pelvis. I am also getting fitted for a pelvic support brace on Monday. I'm hoping it will help
