Weight Gain

Within the last three years I have gained approximately 15 lbs!  I am so frustrated with myself.  I want to blame it on IF treatment, but I am not sure if I can blame it primarily on IF.

I wish I liked to work out. I have been very inconsistent with working out.  It makes me very sad I have put on so much weight.  I am 5 feet tall, 15 lbs is a big deal to me.  Ugh!!!  I do not want to spend money on knew clothes.  I guess I need to hit the gym :(

Any idea's on how to make working out fun?

Re: Weight Gain

  • I don't have advice on making working out fun since I have never loved it.  I totally feel your pain.  I put on 18 pounds in three years and I am only 5' 3".  It's very frustrating.
  • Loading the player...
  • The same thing has happened to me, and I'm also around 5 feet so I definitely feel much bigger than my pre-IF self. I'm not sure if IF itself, or just the emotional toll it took (which made it hard to want to work out which I HATE anyway), or just getting older made me gain the weight, but it sure hasn't done much for my self-esteem.

Since I had to wait to cycle, I started doing Zumba at home with Xbox Kinnect since I don't belong to a gym. I actually found it to be a pretty good workout, as much as I can like working out. I don't love jogging and my neighborhood is really hilly, which made it too intense for me. On the weekends I love outdoor activities like hiking, but that's not something that can be done daily. But I can recommend Zumba. I lost about 7 pounds, but I stopped working out when I started cycling so I'm sure I gained a lot of it back.

  • I can definitely blame a lot of my 15lbs on IF.  I've come down 5 recently.  Just making sure you are getting up and walking around can go along way (if you have a desk job, get up and move around every 20-30 min even if you are going to be taking <100 steps).  But I took up playing squash and I'm really having fun with it.  I also biked into work a couple of times.  And left my bike here to bike back and forth between all the buildings.

I am an Nurse, so I get a lot of walking in.  I also take the stairs to the unit I work in which is on the 5th floor.  I have considered biking into work, it is only about 5 miles, I just need to do it!  What is squash?  I have never heard of it.

I like to blame a lot of my weight gain on getting older.  My mom tells me all the time that she started putting on weight after she turned thirty.  It seems that may play a part.

I have attempted a zumba class.  I sucked!!!  I have no coordination.  I should invest in Kinnect since we have an xbox, maybe if I work out/exercising to zumba at home I wouldn't be so self conscious about how poor my coordination is.

I love hiking!  Dh and I have gone hiking a few times this summer, but not enough.  I also enjoy water sports (water skiing/wake boarding), but I haven't had time this summer to go boating with my family (my parents own the boat). Sadly my family is up at my favorite lake at this very moment, which is about four hours from here, and since I'm on call I cannot meet up with them.  DH just said he was going to meet up with them, which makes me really jealous!

  • I've gained a ton since we started TTC 2 years ago. I wish it was "only" 15 lbs.  I can blame like 10 lbs on the actual cycling but I know it was me eating like an a$$hole to try to make myself feel better. Not only did it not accomplish that, it made me feel even worse about myself.  I joined WW the end of April and have lost about 9lbs.   I wish I had made more progress than 9lbs but we did go on vacation for a week to Punta Cana, I had arm surgery in May and I just cycled again so I am not beating myself up about it.  But I am definitely getting this weight off me. I hate any pictures of myself because it is the only time when I really "see" how fat I got.

Now that I am done cycling I am going back to the gym. I used to like it so I will just learn how to again.  I've also cut out my binging problem when I am sad!   If we do move forward with DE, I need to get some more weight off to give myself the best chance.

  • I was about the same too, I think it was about 12 lbs in 2 yrs.   Im just lucky I'm tall. I think some of it was cycling, and the rest was eating and drinking after failed cycles ( as a way of coping). Then repeating this cycle 4 times.

I do like to work out, but it doesn't even come close to offsetting indulgent eating.  I pray I'm able to loose it, after I have this baby.

  • I had put on 10-15 and before I did my DE cycle Inwas determined to get back in shape. I did p90x and followed their diet and lost it all. Commit to a program and follow it. I found the myfitnesspal app very helpful with the diet part. Now, I am sure that all went downhill the past month with cycling and being in Cali, eating everything in sight. I am scared to weigh myself tomorrow, but said it must be done!

When I first started putting on the weight I figured it wasn't a big deal because I thought I would be getting pregnant soon, haha joke's on me :)

For a minute there I was working out frequently, but I lost interest and just need to find what I enjoy!

V, I do not think you will have a difficult time losing weight after you have your LO!  "Knowing you" I know you are determined and a very strong person!

I was about the same too, I think it was about 12 lbs in 2 yrs.

"Knowing you" I know you are determined and a very strong person!

yeah I thought the same way too. Now I'm pregnant fatter than I wanted to be.  My goal is to loose it before going back to work. 5-6 mos, bc I don't want to buy all new work clothes.  And thx for thinking I can do it!

Now that I am pregnant, I am double mad at myself.  I am thrilled to be pregnant but I am adding that weight to the 18 I already gained during IVF.  Boo!  I hope I can take it off when the baby is born. V, I have faith in you too and will try to have faith in myself.  :)

I had put on 10-15 and before I did my DE cycle Inwas determined to get back in shape.

It was the yummy fish tacos...blame it all on SD!!

  • I gained about 20 from when I started with my RE, through my failed cycle and my m/c,I just seemed to eat more. I've always been an emotional eater. Plus the alcohol...it made me feel better. Now I'm just watching the weight sneak on through this pg; I know it's going to be rough to lose. I too am not a motivated to work out gal.  I was trying to lose weight before I got pg...I made DH go for a walk with me every evening. Not much, but going from nothing to at least that made a little bit of a difference. GL!

  • I have put on 35 pds since we got married. :< I joined the gym and go with a friends. I was doing really well and lost 11 pods, but hit a wall. We do water fitness. Need to be better about taking it more seriously, but they are outside and it's sooo hot. I am also not good if my friend doesn't go, they start early, so of course I like to sleep in.

I am blaming it on SD LOL. It was either the fish tacos or the 3 trips to In-N-Out with-in 24 hrs!

That is my problem.  If I have no one to go work out with I will not go.  I'm so lame!

I can definitely blame a lot of my 15lbs on IF.

Ah... getting into the lab and away from my computer probably contributed to some of those 5lbs lost Smile.  Sounds like you are covered there.  My bike ride is 15miles.... if that helps motivate you Smile  Squash is sort of similar to raquet ball.  But the ball is black instead of blue, smaller, and way less bouncy.  Waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than raquet ball though IMO.

After I read your post, I called a co-worker/friend who lives down the street, she has agreed to ride to work with me.  I am super excited.  We will be riding to work this Sunday.  Squash sounds fun.  I will look into it.  Thank you for the idea's!
