Cloth Diapering

Which prefolds would you suggest?

I've lurked here for a few weeks, and done some research. I'm looking to CD my new little one when he arrives. It seems as though the best route to go with on a newborn is to do prefolds, covers, and a few AIOs, until he can fit into OS (and I can do a trial). The prefolds that I've been looking at are Imagine "Smart Fit" or regular, Cotton Babies, and GMD. Out of those brands, are there any that you recommend? Bleached or Unbleached?

TIA!

Re: Which prefolds would you suggest?

  • GMD are the most popular.

I used Rearz because I got them cheap.

It's a square of cotton. Buy what you can find for a good price.

  • Good to know. I was considering going the cheapest route, and can get cotton babies or imagines for around $18/dozen. I plan to continue to use them in my pockets later on.

  • I've bought a few different brands, adding a few to different orders and have tried the gmd, imagines, diaper rite, ozocozy and I like the ozocozy the best because they are the softest(but they were in the diaper trial I did so are quite a few washes a head of the rest so maybe that is why).  I think they all about the same really so whatever is cheapest.  I do like the unbleached better though!

  • I am buying GMD's. I really wanted to get Imagine Smartfit, but they are forever out of stock of most of the varieties and I don't have patience for that.

  • I've used Cotton Babies Indian cotton PFs, econobum PFs, Imagine "Smart Fit" PFs (all unbleached cotton) and I love the "Smart Fit" the best. They are my go to diaper. Don't rule out using PFs for older babies. My LO is almost 10 months and we're on our second set of PFs and love them for day time. So easy when you tri-fold and lay in the cover.

I recommend unbleached just because they don't show stains quite as badly and if you sun your diapers at all then they will lighten up. I wasn't a fan of the bleaching process, it seems unnecessary.
