How much to feed 1 year old twins

Hi gang,  my kids just turned 1.  What is a typical feeding schedule for you? I'm wondering about milk and solids.  My kids get their sippy cup with milk three times a day ( 16-18 oz)' and solids. Do you give milk or water with their meals? How much do you typically feed them solids?  I feel like my kids could sit in their chairs all day and eat. It kills me how I see some kids just sit quietly in their high chairs while the parents are eating.  Not mine, when they see us eating they want to eat too. Just curious what you do.

 Thanks.

Re: How much to feed 1 year old twins

  • I did milk 3 times a day. Because my girls have always been stubborn eaters and would rather drink their calories vs. eat them, I tried to just serve water during meals so that they'd eat their food. I would serve 3 meals and then a snack or two in between meals or before/after their nap.

DH works late, so I fed (and still do b/c of his work schedule) them separately. If he was/is home before their bed time though and we're sitting down for dinner, they too would get a small snack (fruit or cheerios or yogurt, for ex.) in their highchairs while we ate. That way, everyone is content.

  • Why is it bad for kids to sit in their high chairs while parent's eat? They can sit contently and not eat. Mine have 4 meals a day, all in their high chairs; 7:30am 5oz milk and around 3-4oz solids; 11:30am 5oz milk and 3-5oz solids; 3:30pm 6oz toddler formula and maybe a small snack like a Gerber cookie or vegie puffs. 6pm 5-6 oz solids dinner and 7pm 7oz formula bottle after bath (not in their chairs, we hold them for this one). We usually eat dinner after putting them to bed because we like to enjoy play time with them before hand and cook later when we have free time. If we make dinner early, we feed them and they sit with us while we eat. I think it's good for them to learn how to be content at a table while the adults eat. Not saying I'd have them sit there for a long time, we're talking under 30minutes here! But they're full, they don't need more food. Sometimes I'll give them something to chew on like a bread crust or a new food item to try from my plate.

I don't think she was saying it's bad for kid to sit in high chairs and not eat...I think he meant that as soon as you put her kids in their chair, they want to eat. That's how my son is, too...if we're eating, he wants to eat too.
