Pediatric dentist said to use a toddler flouride toothpaste from 2 on. DD does, but DS still uses non because the flavor is too strong for him.
I heard not until they know how to spit out the toothpaste instead of swallowing it. DD still swallows it since she likes the taste so we just use the toddler toothpaste and give her fluoride drops.
DD uses kids toothpaste (Dora, I think Colgate) which is safe ages 2+. The hardest part was getting her to put it on her teeth instead of tongue, and then really spitting... we're finally getting the hang of it.
Pediatric dentist told us we should start with fluoridated toothpaste at his very first appointment, which was 13 months. She just said to use a small amount.
I just asked my doctor this question. We try it, but he doesn't understand how to spit yet. She said to keep him on the non-fluoride until he understands.

This is what ours said too. He said to use a half pea sized amount but I use much less than that. I use a tiny amount and it is plenty.

we are still just dabling in it because he uses it, brushes, and then I tell him to stop and spit (to remind him) and then you can see him swallow and then spit whatever is left. It's a process.

Our pediatrician said the same thing but the flavor is too much for our 2 year old.
