This morning I woke up for one of my normal potty breaks around 3am and when I went to grab the toilet paper I couldnt clasp my hand to grab it because it was so swollen. So I turned the light on and discovered my hands were majorly swollen and purple around my wedding rings. I called DH in there to help me get my rings off and that was a painful 15 min process (we ended up using veggie oil to slide them off). I had DH rub them with lotion, went back to bed for a couple of hours, and this may sound ridiculous but I elevated them on a couple of stacked pillows as I would do for my feet. I woke up to get ready for work and they are still really swollen and painful. They also have a purple-ish tint to them but I can actualy close them now.
A co-worker of mine came in my office to chat and I could tell she looked at my hands a couple of times. Finally she asked me if I am able to wear my wedding rings and I told her the story and she said she could actually tell and my hands and fingers look like they are gonna bust but she didnt want to "just come out and say it"
I am very comfortable with swelling at this point since my feet/ankles/calves have been since 2nd tri, but my hands are a different story - this is new to me. Is this something I should contact my OB about? Anyone else swelling really bad in their hands and fingers?
Re: Should I call my OB?
I had terrible swelling, numbness and carpal tunnel with my first pregnancy, but it came on gradually and stuck with me for the last couple of months. There was nothing I could do to make it feel better...just tried to avoid salty food and drink a ton of water.
I think if you experience any new sudden and extreme swelling that you haven't had before, it may be good to call your OB. May signal something is changing with your BP, pre-E or something?? Can't hurt to call.
