Just got my BFP - worried about sailing

I crew on a sailboat and race 1-2 nights per week.   I am wondering if anyone else has sailed during their 1st tri.  I am a little paranoid.  I think my stomach knew last week that something was up - I was nauseous nearly the whole time I was on the water.  I my postions on the boat require a fair amount of lifting / strength (arms and legs) and do get jostled around quite a bit on the boat.

  • Maybe you're just experiencing some motion sickness now that you're pregnant? But if you think you're doing too much, definitely scale it back. Make sure you talk to your doctor.

  • I'll have to take it day by day - if it is really windy or if the lake is choppy - we do get thrown around quite a bit (and I have the bruises to show for it) and we are always bumping each other (sometimes it is a sharp elbow to a random body part).  Here's hoping Ma Nature will cooperate with some nice calm days so I can stay on the water.  Will be setting up my first doctor appointment soon and this will be a topic for discussion.

  • When I got my first BFP, I was in Punta Cana and we were going out snorkeling (I brought a few tests and got the faintest line that I thought wasn't accurate). Anyway, I have been out sailing, and on boats more times than I can count and this time was so horrible. I was so sick, and kept my head down praying for them to bring us back in soon. I suppose it was the flood of hormones, but I won't go on a boat if I know I'm og after that! Everyone of course is different though!! GL!

  • I used to race in a women's league and yeah I would say 1st tri will be ok but I wouldn't after that.  Right now you will have to decide if you can get past the nausea.  I was on a j24 so I usually was up front.  Just in case that makes a difference.
  • Thanks, Tigger.  I am on a Cayanne 41 - think supersized T10 with running backstays.  I am doing pit and trim.  I had been on the mast.  Skipper moved me back in the cockpit last season after I had some knee issues in the off season.  She knew we were TTC and thought getting me off the deck would be a little easier on me.  Forecast for Monday (next practice) is 8kt and <1ft waves.  I think I can handle that.  ;)  I am in a women's league, too!  Do some Friday sailing when I have time (not this week - bad head cold is killing me!).
