Which milk?

For those that have not made the transition from formula/bm to wcm. Which one are you planning on using and why? How did you make the transition and was it easy? I have about 200oz of bm left in the deep freezer and wanted to use that first, but I was wondering if I should I use it when I make the switch just in case he doesnt like the taste? TIA

Re: Which milk?

  • Do you mean like, cow milk vs. goat milk vs. soy milk, etc?  We are going to do cow milk.  I LOVE milk and hope my LOs do too!  I also have a lot of BM in the deep freeze that I'd like to use first.....but I froze it back when she was inhaling BM, in 6oz bags.....not sure if she'd drink 6oz in a day anymore (she's currently boycotting bottles, barely drinking 1oz at daycare).  I'd rather donate it to a baby who would drink it, and switch her over to WCM once she drinks the BM I've frozen lately in smaller bags (2-3oz).

  • I wish we could have done WCM but Dylan spits it up and it stinks.

We're using almond milk and he digests it perfectly, no spit ups or stinky rotten milk smell. I feel like I'm a broken record for almond milk lately, haha.

Oh, and we made the switch almost cold turkey. I cut out all day bottles and finished the can of soy formula by giving bedtime bottles for about a week. Once the can was finished I cut out the bedtime bottle and now he's bottle free. I LOVE BEING BOTTLE FREE now!! lol.

I think it is weird that your criterion for switching milk is that his puke stunk.  LOL!  Of course it did.  Cow milk smells sour when thrown up.  If he was spitting up a lot from it, then I get it.  But, switching because his puke stinks when he throws up.  No.

Surely you didn't do this.  No?

  • Cow.  He was on a mixture of F and BM for his whole life.  So, we knew he'd do fine with regular WCM, as traditional formulas are WCM based.

Cow here too. I am just starting. I am giving him a full bottle every other day just starting this week, just to make sure he does ok with it. I will keep increasing the amount over the month until he is off formula.

I think she means that it's actual throw-up vs. just spit up?  So maybe it was bothering his tummy, since it was getting (at least partially) digested.  If switching to almond milk means he's not throwing it up, then I think that is a good switch!

I never said it wasn't.  But, I did notice that when we switched to WCM.  The smell of his spit up did change.  So, that part is normal.  If he was puking because of it, then that is totally different.

Why would I switch to cows milk just because his puke stinks? WOW! I didn't think people would need an explanation on the choices I make for my son. He spits up non stop from cows milk and has done that since a baby. He was on soy formula and now on to almond milk because he can't digest WCM, cheese, and yoghurt. My doctor told me to try again at 2 years old because of his intolerance...

Thank you, that is exactly what I meant. Next time I will choose my words more "carefully" for others...:)

  • We do cow's. The transition has been fairly painless, luckily.  We had been giving DD small amounts of it throughout the day until the formula ran out and now she us only getting milk and water. She doesn't seem bothered. In fact, she is now drinking more milk than she had been formula.

I just always notice when you say you don't do WCM because he spits up and it smells.  Then you say you do almond milk. I wouldn't want people to think that they should switch if their LO's puke stinks.  There is a def. odor difference between BM/Formula and WCM.  Vomiting is very different than spitting up.  With so many crazed WCM (when/how/why/etc) posts on here these days, it is just something I noticed (and could totally see someone getting all worked up because their baby had sour milk smelling spit-up).

  • A mix of WCM/BM till the freezer BM is gone.  That will probably be this week.  Then WCM and she still nurses 2 or 3 times a day.

  • Pedi said whole milk (cow milk) so that's what we are doing. DS spit it out at first but now will drink a little. I give him a little in his sippy at every meal to get used to it, then we will start replacing morning/night bottles with milk sippys!
