Someone broke into my house...

It happened last friday and I am still a nervous wreck over it.  It was 12:30 at night and I was just getting into bed.  I was on the phone saying goodnight to my husband because he was out of town for the night when I heard a sound coming from my living room.  I wasn't sure what it was and asI was walking out ofmy roomto go downstairs and check it out I heard my dog started  barking like I have never heard him before. Then I heard some more sounds and then my back door slammed shut. I quickly got off the phone with H and called the cops.  They showed within minutes and serached the whole house and yard to make sure no one was there and then told me to call again if they came back.  They also had a car patrolling our street for the rest of the night.  Needless to say, but I didn't sleep at all the rest of the night.  I kept checking on my kids and making sure the doors were locked 100 times.

The scariest part was that whoever did it knew I was home.  My car was parked right in front of my house.  If I hadn't of been on the phone with H I would have been sleeping and might not have been so quick at reacting.

I'm still having a hard time sleeping and every little sound scares the crap out of me.

No real point to this post, just freaked out.

  • I'm so sorry.  My house was broken into and I wasn't home.  It really freaked me out.  I can't imagine how I would feel if I had been home!  Can you have a friend stay with you until DH gets back?  That happened to me almost three years ago and I still get nervous leaving the houses. Take care of yourself.

  • OMG THAT IS AWFUL!!!! Do you have a home alarm?? DH is a manager of an alarm company so we ALWAYS use one... I also am of the mindset of protecting yourself and your home... Especially when I am home alone... I know its more difficult with kids in the home but you never know what could happen.. I know owning a gun isnt for everyone.. but dont try and break into my home because you will get shot at....

(OBVIOUSLY Gun Safety is of the UTMOST importance to us and we do practice proper safety precautions with having a child in my home.... )

  • Monday night I dreamed someone was breaking into mine and I shot him multiple times. Crazy part is, when I woke up, I grabbed my gun and ran to the front door because it was that real to me.

I am so, so sorry. My mom's house was broken into several years ago and we had to wash EVERYTHING to "get him off of it" before she could sleep there. It was so traumatizing and I hate you're dealing with this now.

  • OMG so glad that everyone is safe!!!  How scary!!!

I would check out ebay for some ADT security signs for your house.  They may deter that person from coming back.

  • That's SO scary :(  I'm sorry that happened to you, but glad to hear everyone is alright!
  • How scary! I bet your dog scared him away. They say dogs are more effective deterrents than alarm systems even.

  • Terrifying! I'd have to get a security system or something after that to be able to sleep!

So glad that the burglar ran away instead of confronting you!  That is so scary!  This is why I insist on having an alarm system.  It has always freaked me out to be home alone at night.

My husband is a transport driver so he is gone most of the week.  He is usually only home on weekends.  Unfortunately I spend most nights alone with our girls.

A-hole broke a small window in my back door then reached through to unlock the door.  I didn't know untill after but that was the first sound i heard.

Oh yeah. Time for an alarm (not just a sign) and a gun. Doesn't have to be loaded, by any means, but if he ran because he heard commotion, he's going to dip out even faster if an alarm sounds and/or he ends up with cold, black metal in his face.

    Fuckingasshole.

This! Glad your dog barked at them

  • Aww, I'm sorry! That must have been terrifying. I'm with the other PPs - I'd get an alarm if you can. We have one and I feel infinitely safer when DH is on business trips.
