Hi ladies,
DH and I currently live in Mt. Washington/Pikesville and are searching for a new home. We are thinking about the possibility of Westminster as it seems we can get more for our money and we would be in Carol County school district for DS.
For those who live there, do any of you commute to Baltimore? I work in the Inner Harbor and DH works in the city too. We are afraid the commute will be too far, especially since our current commute is only about 20-30 mins.
Thanks!
Re: Anyone here live in Westminster?
This. I did the reverse commute from Canton to Westminster for about 14 months and it does start to wear on you (and that was going against traffic). I didn't really realize how much of my day I was missing until I stopped doing it and had tons more free time!
I grew up in Westminster and Hampstead and DH lived in Westmister before we moved in together. I am not going to lie 140 can be a total disaster in the morning. If there are any problems at all traffic grinds to a hault because there really are not any alternate routes to 795. I agree with the previous posters that Finksburg (closer to 795 along rt 140) or Hampstead (commuting via 83) would be better options to reduce your commuting time.
You could also try to look in Upperco which is along the Carroll County/Baltimore County line. Depending on which side of the line you are on it would be either North Carroll High School (Hampstead Elementary or Spring Garden would be the elementary schools) or Hereford High School (5th District, 7th District or Pretty Boy are the elementary schools).
Good Luck!
I'm in Westminster. I work in Woodlawn. My commute is at the very least with no traffic 40 minutes (leaving the house at 5:15am). Most days it's at least an hour.
It'll be worse once they start the construction on the bridge on 140.
Hi! We used to live there but moved out a few years ago. Have you thought about the southern end of the county? Eldersburg/sykesville area? It's a sleeper community for Baltimore, but it's an easy drive to the city and the area/schools are great for kids.
Good luck, whatever you decide!
