Adoption

Less than 24 hours...

Until we meet the birthparents.  DH and I are heading out early tomorrow morning to fly and then drive to a town to meet the BM and BF of the child we are hoping to adopt.  So nervous and excited at the same time.  Wish this heat wave wasn't all over the country, would have been nice to go to a park or something, but may be too hot to spend too much time outside.  I am sure we will think of something to do.

  • A BM is a bowel movement. And since she hasn't given birth yet, she is "an expectant mother." How about you drop the 'birth' thing altogether and just call her what she is? A mother. If this couple decides to relinquish, the baby will always have two mothers...the one who gave birth to the child and you. Don't demean the biological parents by reducing them to sperm and egg donors. They are much more than that.

Whoa, take it easy... No one is 'demeaning' birth moms or expectant moms. Stick around this board a tad and you'll quickly see there is a lot of respect for ALL mothers in the adoption triad.

I very much agree with Patches. Nobody here is trying to reduce birth parents to sperm and egg donors! If you get to know us a little better, you'll have a better understanding. We respect all members of the triad and in domestic infant adoption this is a commonly used term that is not meant offensively! So please don't take offense when there is no need to.

  • Rather than worrying about whether or not I take offense, why don't you look at what I've said in an objective way? Is it so difficult to type "n-mother" or "bio mom" rather than BM? Would YOU want to be referred to as fecal matter? Show a little respect.

In all honesty, I think you need to move along. This board is made up of kind, caring, intelligent women and most have been put through the ringer.  None of them show any disrespect to a BM or birth mom as they all feel so priviledged and blessed to have them.  Do you really think they mean/show disrespect to someone that carrys their child?  Please find some place else to start drama and show some RESPECT.
