Saw the high risk doc again today. The good news is hb is good, cervix is still closed on the outside & is measuring 2.5. That's a bit longer than it was in L&D Tuesday, but slightly shorter than it measured w/ this doc on Monday. She said to take into consideration that measurements can vary from dr. to dr. So for now I am "stable".
A new development: she can see a bit of "debris" forming at the top of my cervix, where it is "beaking" (ie opening slightly) at the top on the inside. She says they don't know exactly what it is but it tends to settle at the bottom of the ute near the top of the cervix. Typically, in cases where there is visible "debris", and a cerclage is placed, the outcomes are poor. Usually resulting in ruptured membranes etc. Cerclage isn't totally off the table yet but since I'm still cramping/likely contracting she still doesn't recommend it. She said even if I wasn't contracting, w/ a cervical measurement of 2.5 she still probably wouldn't place a Cerclage. Her gut feeling is still that this is genuine PTL & not IC. I have had a full term baby, & even 3 days before my 22 week loss my cervix was well over 3 & closed.
So for now we just wait and take it day by day. Obviously the best thing would be for these contractions to stop altogether. Barring that, if things could just stay as they are for the next 8 weeks until I get to 24 weeks, there's more they can do for me. I asked her to speak frankly and tell me what the odds are here, and unfortunately she thinks there's little chance I will carry this baby to term. When PTL presents itself this early it's difficult to reverse and women typically go on to deliver. That said, she said she's been proven wrong before. She thinks at best we will have a preterm baby.
Im trying to digest all of this slowly, stay positive but not get my hopes too high. As I type all of this i can feel this lil one wiggling & kicking, I just hope my body can hold out long enough to give this baby a chance! Any T& P you can spare would be greatly appreciated.
