Short vent...LO grinds teeth

DD's top two teeth recently came in.  Her new favorite activity is grinding her teeth.  It is about to send me over the edge.  It is way more awful than nails on a chalk board.  I have a  physical reaction every time she does it.  I cringe, cover my ears, and tell her to stop.  She thinks this is hilarious - which I am sure reinforces the behavior.  I really hope this is a short term thing!

  • Hi, I am currently suffering this behavior as well.

Is this our support group? How do we make it stop?? *shudder*

  • I hear DD doing this or "clicking" her teeth.  She has the bottom two and the top two just popped through the gums.

  • i had this problem a few weeks ago and it drove me crazy! i absolutely hated it when DD would grind them.  Luckily after about three horrible days she stopped.  DD#1 did it when her molars were coming in and it was horrible then too. good luck! get some ear plugs (kidding)!

  • By giving her attention when she does it, you are totally reinforcing the bad behavior.  Ignore her.  She will stop eventually.

  • Kendall did this too.  I think its them realizing they actually have teeth.  It only lasted a few weeks.  We would start talking to her or make her laugh when she was doing it to distract her from it.  I don't know if that helped or if she just got over the fact that she has teeth.

  • My LO has been doing this for a while.  I guess he comes by it honestly, as I do it when I sleep.  It doesn't bother me, but it drives DH crazy.

Hang in there, after a few weeks he is doing it less and less every day.

  • R does this too.  His first top tooth came through last week and his second one is almost through.  It gives me the hibbie jibbies when he grinds those teeth together.  It doesn't seem to bother DH, but it makes my teeth hurt to listen to it.  I hope it stops soon!

So there's this boy. He kinda stole my heart. He calls me "Mom"

  • My LO does this as well...it's been about 2-3 weeks and he's already doing it less often.  The best thing you can do is ignore it...if possible :)

  • She's just exploring what she can do now that she has more teeth. DD1 did the same thing and it drove me bonkers, but it was only a few weeks and she moved on to exploring other new skills :)

  • My son did this when he first got his top teeth in.  It drove me crazy!  My husband grinds his teeth at night and I didn't want to have to listen to it during the day as well.  Luckily the novelty of having teeth must have worn off because he doesn't do it anymore.  Hopefully you guys can all say that soon!

  • DD does it.  Ever since those top two came in.  It doesn't have the same effect on me, I just hope she doesn't damage her mouth doing it.  Maybe they're get over it when the new wears off and stop!
