Hi there I am new to TB!:) I have a 6 month old DD but wanted to share my story anyway! I tried talking to some of the ladies on the C/S board to ask them some questions out of curiosity as to why they want and got a C/S or RCS and they flamed me big time even though I was asking them in a nice way:( So please no flaming!

Anyway, I have a local site I am a part of through TMN (don't know if any of you ladies have those in your area), and halfway through my pregnancy was so set on getting a C/S. My OB made it available to me and I thought I would take him up on that. The reason why was b/c DD was projected to be 9 lbs or over at 40 wks. Even though I am a tall person (5'9"), the idea of giving birth to that big of a baby as a FTM scared me to death and I couldn't fathom what it would be like to push her out! Fortunately, on my TMN board where I live, the majority of the moms are very crunchy, natural birthing, and we also have a TON of VBAC moms on there too, so they are all very pro- VBACs if they weren't able to end up with their desired vaginal birth the first time around. One of the women is just over 5 ft and delivered two 9-10 lb babies un-medicated and vaginally and really inspired me to go for a vaginal birth!! The ladies on there really talked me out of wanting a C/S when they told me about recovery time and also the extra expense involved, and the fact that it just wasn't necessary and that pushing a baby out yourself (even a big one!) wouldn't be that bad.

Well DD ended up coming 3 weeks early (uninduced; my water broke early and she ended up coming early) all on her own and was 7 lbs 2 oz (if she had been full term though, 9 lbs would have been about accurate!), and it was the BEST decision and experience of my life getting to deliver vaginally!! I had an epidural, so I didn't go med-free though. Pushing a baby out was not bad at all and I can say the ladies I talked to were right 100%- I was up walking around in less than an hour and felt great and within a few days was back to doing everything I could do before the pregnancy! I would hate to have had to wait 6 weeks to drive or lift anything if I had gotten a C/S. I will def deliver vaginally again and again in a heartbeat! And now that I've done it once, even if the baby is 9 lbs or more I wouldn't even think twice about doing it again-our bodies are made to do this!!:)

So for all of you who are questioning whether or not you can deliver vaginally, you CAN do it!! My best friend is pg with her first due in August and she is going through what I went through, in that her OB has made a C/S available to her (I think they all do really, from what others have told me) but I told her she needs to put her foot down and tell her OB what SHE wants!! And that she CAN have a vaginal delivery!! I think sooo many women have it made available to them and get sucked into it b/c its the "easier" option at the time. I know a lot of women like that and they regret it later.

The moms on the C/S board kept saying that their first birth was so traumatic they just wanted a RCS to not go through that again...but no two births are the same, yet so many women won't even give a VBAC a chance when they could potentially have a great birthing experience! Its so sad. And then some OB's I've heard won't even do VBACs and just push women to have a RCS.

Its sad how rare vaginal births have become in this country:( I wish we could see that change sometime soon but it doesn't look likely!!

Anyway sorry that was long lol, I'm sure a lot of you echo my same sentiments!

You do realize this is the natural birth board, right? You did not indeed have a natural birth.

Your birth story has to do with the fact that you were lucky in that your baby arrived early with no complications. If it was the other way around, you could have had a c section or worse. Get off your high horse and humble yourself mama.

I am just curious though, I am trying to understand, I know a lot of women have Emergency C sections their first birth (and others plan them for various reasons), but why do so many people get repeat C-sections instead of trying for VBACs?

I was very high risk and my OB kept telling me I was either going to need an induction or a C-section (or possibly both!). I put my foot down with him and told him that unless he showed me paperwork to PROVE that I needed one or the other or both, I was not doing that (now if it was life or death for my baby, that would have been different). I was borderline Pre-E and was warned it could turn into HELLP. I told him that unless it was ACTUAL Pre-E or ACTUAL HELLP then I did not want anything less than a vaginal birth. I lucked out in that my DD came on her own early (not induced) at exactly 37 wks so I guess my condition didn't really have much of a chance to get "worse" than it was b/c of her early arrival, so that all worked out. If I had had to have a C-Section though, I would in no way want a repeat, I would absolutely go for a VBAC!

Just curious, if you elected for a C-section, why? And if you didn't want a VBAC for your 2nd or subsequent birth, why?

I am so happy I was able to do it vaginally, but I know that isn't the case for everyone out there and there are a lot of women who can't.

Troll. Can you explain this then? P.S. You dont know what will happen to you in the delivery room, nothing is set in stone.

You are totally contradicting yourself. There's your answer. Read a medical textbook on obstetrics if you are unsure about the risks of delivering vaginally after a c section. And then go back to asking people for free things on the internet.

Well no Sh*t is was not that bad. You had an epi. That is what they are for!

I did go natural and it was amazing but you won?t see me putting down anyone who did what they had to do to bring a healthy baby into the world.

Wow. You are a raging b!tch, lrw. You came on the c/s board to teach us a lesson and now you start bashing us on another board. Seriously?

I did attempt med-free birth. That's how I ended up under general anesthesia. I refused an IV and meds, and when things went down hill, the OB had to knock me out to get DD1 out as quickly as possible. According to you I should have just put my foot down and insisted on delivering vaginally, right? Screw the fact that it would have ended with my baby and possibly myself dying. Vaginal birth is what you makes a better mom than me, right? I wasn't there when my baby entered this world, and I should just suck it up and VBAC. Sorry, I'll take being awake over doing things your way any day. You can *** off.
