June 2011 Moms

Bottle question

Just wondering how many June moms have taken the bottle away for lo.  Dd drinks water out of a sippy and still has milk out of a bottle. I'm due with ds in October and would like to get her off the bottle by then and was just curios as to what others are doing and how the transition went.

Right now when dd sees her bottle she gets so excited and gets all comfy on her chair to drink it.  She looks do happy I kinda feel bad about taking it away   AlsoIm concerned about her not drinking as much  as she does now with her sippy

Re: Bottle question

  • We transitioned DD off the bottle at the same time we went to WCM, just after she turned 1. She seemed uninterested until I gave her a new cup she'd never used before and now she gets excited over that just like you're saying your DD does with her bottle.

  • We concentrated on the switch to WCM first (we are still not fully over, but close). Then I cut one bottle out completely (no sippy either) and I just recently switched his morning bottle to a sippy of milk. He will only drink 1-2oz from it. I'm hoping over time he'll start to drink more. We have 2 bottles left (nap time and bed time) and I don't plan to change those for another couple months.

  • We transferred her off the bottle at 11 months but it was an ongoing process since about 7 months.

  • I asked our pedi at our 12 month visit because DD would not drink milk out of a sippy at all.  He said to wait a little because DD had weight gaining issues and he wanted to make sure she was doing ok on milk as opposed to her high calorie formula.  He said the latest he would take her off the bottle was 15 months.

Now she drinks milk from a sippy with a soft spout, which I still consider a bottle but it's a tiny bit better.  Hopefully she'll be off that soon too.

  • We have been using the sippy cup with water for a long time now and transitioned to milk in a sippy cup when we gave her WCM.  She had no problem drinking it from the sippy from the start and always drinks all of it.  (She's always been a super easy-going baby with everything though.)  If we tell her there's milk in the sippy cup she gets extra excited about it and gulps it down like she did with her bottles.

Callie hasn't had a bottle in a long time. She had no issues with the transition.

We still do a morning and nighttime bottle.  She gets sippy's with milk (for meals) and water the rest of the time.  I would like to cut out the morning bottle since she has breakfast at DC, but we plan to do the before bed bottle for awhile, unless I can get her to use a sippy instead.  We are trying to use up the last can of formula and once that is done no more formula all WCM.

  • Since B just turned 1 last week, we are starting the transition to WCM this week - starting super slowly since he's been on soy.  We are focusing on the change to milk first, then we will worry about the sippy.  He drinks water great out of it - however, when it's milk/formula, he is NOT happy.  It's not a battle I think needs to be fought at 12 months old, though, so we can wait a bit.
