Just curious if anyone else had this problem...
I received my hospital bill last week and it was about what I was expecting after insurance covered their portion but then I received a second bill for my epidural for $3500 dollars!!! Apparently since it is "elective" I have to pay for the whole thing out of pocket. I wish I had checked my coverage better BEFORE labor, it may have strengthened my resolve to go med-free if I had known I was going to have a $3500 bill at the end.
Re: Hospital bills
Ouch! that sucks. Im sure they had no problem covering the $.40 tylenol that wasnt medically necessary and just for pain. Silly insurance
That is ridiculous! Call the hospital & insurance company and talk to them before you pay anything. I would definitely fight that charge. The fact that they said it's elective is crazy. Pain management is not elective!
The only thing I'm wondering is if it is a bill from the anesthesiologist & not the hospital. When I had surgery in the past, the anesthesiologist worked for the hospital but was independent. Luckily, he still took my insurance but you have to be careful. Sometimes those independent doctors don't take the same insurance the hospital takes and then stick you with crazy bills. It really is a crime IMO.
That's why when I was in the hospital I checked with anyone who spoke to me if they took my insurance. It's sad that you have to do that but you can get stuck with major bills if you're not careful.
Good luck. I hope you can get it straightened out.
