Re: migraines :(
I have only started to have them with this pregnancy and the only thing that works for me is a quiet, dark room with a cold compress on my forehead. I'm sorry lady, they suck.
I had them before getting pregnant. I have had 1 since being pregnant. I tried the home method (a tylenol, benedryl and a Coke) first. Didn't work for me. Called the OB and they called in a prescription for Fioricet. It worked well.
I've been a "migrainer" for years. They haven't gotten any better during my pregnancy so I've had my share of awful days! I'm currently on the couch feeling like sh!t.
Sometimes these things help [sometimes they don't at all]:
Cold compress
A miniature sized can of Coke [I like the little 7.5 oz ones]
A shower [I sit in the tub with the shower raining down - I usually only leave the closet light on so it's fairly dark & I keep a cup of cold water available incase I start to get too warm & thirsty]
I haven't even bothered taking a Tylenol - mostly because I know they won't help me at all. GL!
I have been getting them awful! My dr approved for me to take Exedrine Migraine now that I am in second tri. You might want to check with them.
LOL, I had to do a double take... Haha
Anyway, I get them too.... It is really frustrating. I find that staying SUPER hydrated (even if it means getting up to pee 5 times a night) helps.
I ditto what PP's say- cool compress, dark & quiet room, take the max dosage of tylernol, etc
Doc prescribed me compazine, *which I was surprised to learn was initially used for schizophrenics* it helps, but not all the time.
I had a day in the ER because I couldn't stop vomiting and couldn't see straight, never mind I was in sooo much pain my whole body was so tense that I hurt all over. While I was there, they gave me IV fluids because I became super dehydrated, tylenol, morphine and an anti nausea med. They sent me home with a script for percocet which was the most helpful, but I only take it if I feel like it will prevent another ER trip.
I feel your pain, literally. I genuinely hope you find relief!
I second this! I can't believe what a difference the Fioricet makes over Tylenol, Unfortunately, I get very frequent headaches (2-3 times per week) and Migraines about twice a month, so I know what you are going through.
I take 100mg of hydroxyzine and a gram if tylenol and wash it down with a Pepsi. Then I go lay down. If this doesn't work, Igrabe stadol nasal spray as a last resort. cold compresses do nothing for me.
And talk to your ob about exceeding migraine before trying it as one poster suggested. It has aspirin in it and sometimes ibuprofen depending on the formulation. A lot of ob's are fine with this in the second tri, but for many it's a no-no.
I had them pre-pregnancy and just started getting them back now that I'm in 2nd trimester. I use lavender oil at my temples, a cold compress for my head, and a quiet room. If it's really bad, then I'll take 2 panadol (paracetamol - the UK/Caribbean version of tylenol). Also drink lots of water, although with the nausea it can be difficult, but I find that the hydration helps. Also if you take the tylenol right when you feel it coming on, you may have better relief from it.
Another thing that I do is avoid trigger foods - common triggers include caffeine, sulphates, chocolate, cheese etc. See if you notice a correlation between what you eat and when you get a migraine. For me, if I eat a single one it's not an issue but when I combine trigger foods - i.e. eat a cheesy meal and finish it off with chocolate - a migraine is almost guaranteed.
Good luck!!
Hello!
I actually have has these for the last 3 months, BAD! I have had migraines in the past before getting pregnant and was suffering really bad with only being able to take Tylenol. My amazing doctor prescribed some prescription migraine medicine called, Acetamin-Caff. It definitely helps and is totally safe! But my only feedback for you is that they do go away eventually... I honestly had days where I didn't think I could get out of bed, but I did and now I'm 22 weeks in and haven't had a migraine in weeks! They just seems to fade away. Good Luck! and definitely ask you Doc about that medicine.
I'm jealous. My doc refuses to budge on that one. Usually if I can take EM when I first feel the headache coming on, then it makes it manageable. All my doc allows is to chug a soda and water and sleep it off. Easier said than done with a toddler running around the house.
Make a pregnancy ticker
If they keep happening I would suggest going to a chiropractor. Chiropractic adjustments can do wonders for migraines. You can also ask around for a Dr who regularly adjusts pregnant women. I have my low back adjusted regularly and it is great.
