My little guy is almost 4 months, so a little young for an umbrella stroller. But it's SO stinkin hot this summer, I thought he may be more comfy in one. If they recline, can I use them at this age? Also, please recommend ones you like!!
My DD is 12 weeks and able to hold herself up and controlher head so I've had her in an umbrella strolelr the last few weeks. I was able to score a MacLaren Triumph at a garage sale for $15 and love it. It has a 5 pt harness that converts to a 3 pt. rolls great and is light. It does not recline, though.
I also have a Trip stroller by Inglesina which is awesome. It DOES recline and rolls great, is umbrella style but much heavier than the Triumph.
I've used umbrella strollers with both LOs from about 3 months on. They are so much easier to deal with. We only use a bike trailer/stroller when out for walks on our country road.
So any other stroller use involves getting the stroller in and out of the car. Umbrella strollers are much better suited to this.
As for which one, ours is a cheap $5 garage sale one. It works fine.
We borrowed a Chicco Liteway, which is like an umbrella stroller, but it can recline and has a basket and nice shade. It is not cheap, but we totally loved it. We used it on a trip to Philly and had it walking all around the city and it was great. Of course, I found out about a month later that I was pregnant with #2 and I knew I would have to get a new double stroller, so I didn't end up getting one of these.

Good luck, strollers are a toughie!
