Child Support - Lower Amount?

Does anyone know whether X and I can agree to a child support amount lower than what the state calculator shows? The amount the state has calculated is nice for me but makes it almost impossible for him to live and get out of my house into an apartment etc.

His attorney has the decree drafted right now where he would get standard visitation plus the first week of each month in the summer, because then he gets a 15% credit on child support due to the number of days/nights.

X said he's willing to give me the visitation schedule I want and allow me to move out of state etc. if I will agree to lower the child support amount. Just wondering if I can even do this or not? We're in Iowa if that helps...

    Yes you can agree to a lower amount.  But make sure you know rights to have the CS revised later when he's making more money.

    Like the other poster, you can agree to any amount, but don't screw yourself in the process.  You never know how your finances...or his will change.  And you can't just run back to change the order because one of you have a change in income.

    XH and I did this when our divorce was finalized because he didn't have a pot to piss in. I can file a Motion any time to see if the courts will review our CS case -- however, they won't do it more than every 2 or 3 years (to avoid people ALWAYS being in court over CS). Think and long and hard if this is what you really want to do.

    dh and bm have been fighting custody in Iowa. Iowa is a pro woman state according to our attorney, and you need to get everything in writing if you plan to leave the state. dh left for his job, there was no work for him around bm, and he needed to provide for his son. Iowa took that as he tried to abandon his son. Make sure you have custody in the papers as well, since Iowa is a state that custody isn't established at birth going to the mother. When we picked ss up for the summer  Tried to stop us, we had an agreement drawn up between the two with the attorneys and not filed With the courts Yet. police told Her she had to let us take him as dh had as much right to Take him as she did cuz There was no custody and. Oath parents had rights to just Up and take him. Iowa is a tricky state. And you can make changes to child support any time if one party's situation changes.
