Re: How was your 4th?

  • Went to the grocery store with my ILs while L took the kids to the gym. Went swimming at the community pool and then went to Cracker Barrel for lunch (cause a visit from the ILs isn't complete without at least 1 meal at CB.) Watched a movie with the kids while everyone else took a nap and did sparklers/pop 'ems with the kids before watching the Capital 4th on tv. We'd promised the kids they could stay up and watch the fireworks, but neither of them made it. We have such party animals. :P

  • We had a long productive day at home.  Two walks early in the morning with E.  Cooked some stock up lunches for us.  Gave E a bath.  Sprayed the house perimeter for bugs.  Did some laundry.  Went to target where E LOVED a $3 ball - he was giggling so hard.  What a cute silly guy we have.  Drank BOGO frappucinos at target.  Picked up a free redb.ox movie.  Watched said movie which was not that great, but the close time was.  Oh and read more of James and the Giant Peach to DW and E - we are loving that.

We are reading James and the Giant Peach, too! :)

Awesome!  Of course we know it is too grown up for him, but DW has not read it and the ritual of reading before bed is so special.  We were wondering when to read it to him again - has C been scared at all?

  • LOVE James and the Giant Peach!!!!

Our 4th was good.  The only part that was sucky was DW worked the night before and had to work the night of the 4th so she only got to eat dinner with us.  DW came home with flowers for me and a card for the start of my "birthday season".  My Bday is on the 24th, but the joke with her and all my friends is I don't celebrate just one day, it's usually about a 2 week event as I like to spread it out going to lunches and what nots with my friends and family =)  She started early this year, but I love that she makes it so special for me.  Anyhow, I took the 3 younger kids to a bbq in the early part of the day.   I played corn hole with a great group of ladies.  Then we went home and I got the kids down for a nap.  I had some people over to swim and play more lawn games while we again had a bbq and a ton of food.  Then I packed up the kids and we caravanned to the next city over to do some fireworks.  There are 3 parks that allow you to set them off.  It had dropped to about 60 degrees and the wind kicked up so my friend that is kinda skiddish around fireworks stayed closer to the truck so the babies could stay sleeping and out of the cold.  We had a great time watching all the fireworks then got to see the firework show they did at the college from where we where in the park.  Then got everyone home, into bed and cleaned.  The kids all slept until 8:30 this morning!! =)  I was beside myself as these kids are usually up at 6.

Spent my fourth in downtown Annapolis with my wife and momma at the Fleet Reserve Club.  As per my usual once the fireworks started I rellocated into the building to duck and cover.  I got hit with a firework when I was a kid and they scare the heck out of me.  It was a great day until we were dropping my mom off and some idiots were letting off some bottle rockets  triggering my flight response.  Well needless to say my flip flop got caught on the curb as I was running away and I got lost of bruises and road rash.  My mom heard an explosion and saw my drop and thought I got shot.  I REALLY HATE fireworks.  Looking back, as sore as I am, I wish we had a camera to catch this calamity and laugh about it.  Next year I am staying home with headphones on!!!!
We had three BFN in the Fall of 2011. It is back on to some baby making come June. Swim little fellas, SWIM!!!!
  • We hung out with my parents all day - they grilled and we watched old movies. Low-key day. We got home around 8:30p and our neighborhood was going crazy with fireworks - I can't believe how loud some of the legal stuff is here, the house shook a few times. The babies didn't fall asleep until 11:45p and then I had to wake them up at midnight for bottles. Luckily they went right back to sleep after that because I was beat.

  • We intended to go to the parade, but nap time got in the way. Instead Lex and I ran errands in the morning and then we all went to my in-laws for the afternoon evening. We grilled out and swam in their pool.  At 101 here, the pool was almost 90 degrees (gross Stick out tongue ).

The kids were asleep for the night by 7:30 and Kel and I listened to the fireworks and planned for our vacation.

  • I spent the morning catching up on laundry and filling my crock pots with dessert (rice pudding) and dinner (stuffed pork chops). When Ann got up we ran to the store and bought a fire pit. She used the excuse of the storm to help talk me into it, "But honey we need to get rid of all of the big limbs and things on our yard somehow...". It is a nice one though with a pivoting grill grate, we made corn on the cob over the fire to go with the chops..yum. Ky took a really long nap while we sat on the couch hiding form the heat. After dinner we got ready and went to see the fireworks at a nearby park.

  • We went up to NH for the 4th.  We stayed at my inlaws lake house which was nice since we had the place to ourselves.  We went up tuesday so we could spend the late afternoon swimming but we ended up stopping at my in laws actual house and stayed for a long time so we got there in time to grill dinner and watch a movie before E went to bed.  We turned in early.  There was lots of fireworks and a party next door but I was out at 9pm.  On the 4th we drove to dw's grandfather's house for a real New England small town parade.  Complete with homemade floats, lots of fire engines and livestock.  There was a great bbq afterwards and then we watched the annual softball game.  We left in the late afternoon and swam in the lake.  This morning we swam and played in the sand at the lake and then headed home in early afternoon.  It was very nice and I am sad we won't be up to the lake for a while due to a busy next few weekends.  It was a really nice 4th but also a bit sad as it was our first 4th without dw's grandma who loved the holiday.  She was missed.

  • E was up early despite the lack of any reason to get up! We got ready and went to the hardware store for 15 bags of mulch for the beds in front of the house. Met up with E's dad at the grocery store and she went to spend the afternoon with him (for their usual Wed. visit). I got home and spent the entire afternoon pulling weeds/edging the beds in the front of the house. Then I got ready and met E and her dad at the park for the fireworks. Poor girl was so tired from her early wakeup, but she made a new friend and ran herself silly. The fireworks were great for our little 'burb. Home late and up for work this morning...it feels like Monday all over again.
