How early did you find out you're having twins??

So, I went for my first ultrasound last week thinking I was 7 weeks pregnant. The ultrasound confirmed that I was actually only about 5 weeks pregnant. They were unable to get a heartbeat as it was too early however they did confirm that there are definitely 2 yolk sacs. I go again next week for another ultrasound and hopefully we'll see atleast 1 (if not 2 heartbeats)!! They told me not to assume I'm having twins yet but I can't help already freaking out about it in an excited but terrified kind of way. Too much googling has led to me learning about 'vanishing twin syndrome' and now I don't know what to think about it. I hate the whole 'waiting game' that pregnancy brings on

How early did some of you ladies find out you were having twins and what were some of your early ultrasound experiences??

5w5d I knew my dating exactly. Did you have one or two gestational sacs?

I had two sacs, two heartbeats.

I was 7 weeks pregnant when I found out. Two distinct sacs with two LO's inside.

I was 13 or 14 weeks, at my nuchal translucency screening (not sure if thats the correct name for the test...). If I had not elected to have the screening done I may not have found out until my 20 week ultrasound. YIKES

At 6 weeks 5 days we saw 2 sacs and 2 heartbeats.

I did IVF so my dating was exact. At 5w0d, we saw something resembling one sac so my RE was pretty sure there was just one. We had put back two embryos. At 7w0d, there were very clearly 2 sacs with 2 heartbeats, but baby A was measuring over a week behind. At 9w5d, it was confirmed that both A and B were still growing and right on track.

It was at our 8 week ultrasound, and we were able to hear both heartbeats.

Yep...we were not going to get an NT scan, so it could have been the 20 week ultrasound for us, too, but my mom is a sonagrapher, and did an ultrasound at 11 weeks and found our twins I didnt measure big until after 20 weeks.

first u/s 10w6d. My OB didn't see twins right away since they were in the same gestational sac (mono/di). She probably would have missed it if my DH didn't say something.

We did IVF, so our dates were exact. I suspected twins b/c I compared my betas to the betabase website. We saw 2 sacs, 2 heartbeats at 6 wks exactly.

We found out at just over 6w, but our RE warned us at the time that there was probably only a 50/50 shot that we'd end up with twins (the second baby was smaller, no visible heartbeat at that time -- and the obvious possibility of a Vanishing Twin).

But, here we are, 6 weeks later -- just had the NT Scan and they're measuring within days of each other, moving around like crazy

6 weeks 6 days - it was an ER visit for a bad migraine and throwing up for more than 6 hours. They wanted to do an u/s to make sure it was ectopic/confirmation since I hadn't had my first appointment yet. Thats when we found out we were having twins, saw 1 sac two heartbeats and then at my 10 week appointment we saw both babies and two sacs. Dating u/s at 12 weeks showed mono/di twins.

I had my first u/s at 5w2d and we saw two gestational and two yolk sacs. At 6w2d, we saw two HBs. GL!

I had a positive pregnancy test and some nicely (more than) doubling betas, but I was bleeding and cramping. They feared ectopic, but the u/s showed 2 sacs instead.

Approximately 5 weeks 2 sacs but one was just dark and baby in the other sac ..... about a few days later saw 2 sacs and 2 babies !

At 7 weeks, 6 days we saw two sacs and had two heartbeats- it's still early, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. GL!

Thank you ladies for sharing your stories!! Basically what I'm learning here is that you can find out as early as 6 weeks that you are having multiples. We'll see how my u/s goes on Tuesday... I'm excited but nervous at the same time. Hubby and I already have a 17 month old and the thought of a 2 year old and twin newborns overwhelms me. Luckily we have an amazing family. I'll let you know if I'll be a regular on this board or not!!

At my first appt. at 8w2d. My OB always does an u/s at the first appt. for dating, to verify viability and to check for multiples.

Just thought I'd give you ladies an update- my ultrasound today confirmed that I am 6 weeks 3 days pregnant and 2 heartbeats were found!! Our twins are due March 2nd!! We are very overwhelmed but very excited for our little family that will soon be a big family!!
