I'm wondering if any other expecting moms are going through this, I'm 18 weeks and 1 day and ever since week 10 I think, I've been having constipation problems. I'm not having a problem going, I go pretty much everyday but they are all (sorry for the TMI) painful bowel movements, sometimes bloody. I have been eating fiber, have been drinking tons of water and started taking Colace(as directed by my dr) but I don't take it everyday. It doesn't seem to help though. Is anyone out there going through this?
Re: Pregnancy constipation and digestion issues?
Pregnancy slows down your digestion big time, so this is a common problem. I've been having it since week 6 and it SUCKS. The only things I've found that works is drinking water until I feel like I need a lifeguard to move, stool softener twice a day every day without fail, and having a small regular coffee in the morning (coffee always gets things moving for me, though).
I was constipated all last pregnancy too. YOu know the end where they say your body cleans itself out with loose stools before labor? Yeah, NEVER happened to me. I was so constipated when I went into labor still (hadn't gone in 6 days) that I was begging for an enema...and that helped. I had ended up having to use a home one a couple of times just to survive the last few weeks. I am really hoping it doesn't stay that way again.
Ditto this.... be careful with the prunes though! Could you possibly get up and go walking or some sort of exercise during the day? Say for 20 minutes? I know if I drink a ton of water and go for a 20 minute brisk walk, it loosens things up.
