Induced, 'Natural' VBAC!!!

We did it!!!  First off, I want to give a HUGE thanks to you ladies.  Your support has been amazing over the past year.  It's hard to believe I actually got my wish, after so much preparation and worry.  So, here's my story.....

They started the pitocin at around 9am Thursday.  I was probably less than 1cm, so my midwife gave me a "let's give this a shot, but it may not work out" type of speech.  She said I had until the night to show some good progress.  At 12:45, I was maybe 2cms but not having great contractions, so she broke my water to move things along.  Around 2:30, I was about 3cms and things were getting a little more intense.  By 3:45pm, I was a tight 4cms and I decided to get the epidural, because we were probably going to be a while.

It took the anesthesiologist over 50 minutes to get there.  During that 50 minutes, I completely lost control - screaming, yelling, the whole bit.  Up until that point, I had remained in control and focused.   They told me I had to go to the bathroom, before they put in my epidural.  So, screaming the whole way, I get to the toilet and I can feel a ton of pressure.  I kinda knew what was up, but I didn't want to tell anyone because I knew they would say no epidural.   During the next two contractions, they were preparing me for the epidural and I was trying to pretend I wasn't pushing.  Being the seasoned providers that they are, they figured me out pretty quickly.  So, I'm begging for the epidural and they're all trying to explain to me that I'm fully dilated and that it's way too late.

Once I started pushing, everything was more in control.  I pushed for 45 minutes and with each push I could feel myself making progress.  The burning was intense, but I could reach down and feel her head.  At 6:02, Alexis 'Lexi' made her entry into the world.  We had some nice bonding time and then DH took her while I got stitched up. I had very minor tearing (4 stitches) and some nice hemmies.  But, other than that, I feel great.

We got home this afternoon and are trying to integrate Alexis into the fold.  Big sister is having some trouble with dethroning, but I'm sure we'll get through it.

It's still hard to believe I got my chance and it all worked out.  I couldn't be more thrilled.  Thanks again ladies!

  • Congrats!!! That's amazing. Enjoy the much easier VBAC recovery. That's the best part!

And woah, you can even take the quotes off natural -- that's intense! My VBAC was similar, really fast diliation 4-10 and no drugs until pushing (my hospital gives epidurals even if you are pushing).

I did the screaming thing too. Transition is one nasty b***h. If we get to have a #3 I am getting to the hospital much sooner!

So glad you posted to let us know! Whoooo!

R was great!!  She gave me a shot at the induction, which is more than anyone else would have done.  I was only a fingertip, so it was a long shot.  I still can't believe things worked out so well.  And the good news is that it looks like the midwife/OB issue will be worked out at the new medical center.

Thanks for checking in on me.
