December 2012 Moms

OMG i'm not a total moron, thanks. LOL

So I have been at family events all week (wake/funeral) and of course, the conversation always tends to go to the lighter side as people notice/find out I'm expecting my 2nd in December. It's not news anymore amongst family, but there are always those extra people at this type of event that pass along their congrats - very nice yady-yada.

So this woman comes over and exclaims 'oh! a Christmas baby! Are you nervous about the timing?' and of course in my 'wit of the moment' I said, "oh no, I have already had a chat with my midwife, and the baby, and we've decided it will be born on the 15th, NOT the 21st, painlessly, with it's hands DOWN (my daughter had put her hands on her head last time - quite painful)."

Well this woman looks at me incredulously, and goes on to say how I cannot tell a baby WHEN to come and how to be born, that these things are in Gods hands. Be patient, and the lord will deliver....blah blah blah....

Um ya. Did you really think I was able to convince my 16 week baby to follow instruction on birth date and style of birth? SERIOUSLY.  I was kidding. But thank you random woman for your blessed advise...

Oh good Lord *HUGE eye roll*.

Some people. Well, at least you can have a giggle in knowing that she was dense enough to actually believed you were serious.  :P

  • Oh my gosh!  Some people are just so ridiculous!  Oh well - another fun preggy story to share for years to come! ;)

  • That's amazing!

I'm due Dec. 1 and everytime I say, "Maybe we'll have a Turkey baby!" I get laughed at and told that EVERYONE'S first is late, so I'm naive to expect a baby in November.

Well f me.  I am just saying there is a possibility since I am due right on the border and I'm sure not EVERYONE is late their first baby.  Jesus.

  • AW *** I just got bronze! ***

    I didn't know I was so close!  HOO-RAY!

  • That's awesome, thanks for the chuckle.

And I was 4 days early with my first (DS) and a week early with my DD.  I also work in the newborn ICU - and believe me, not everyone is late with their first!!

LOL, everyone tells me this too, and since I'm due the 19th, I should apparently plan on a Christmas day baby, "Murphy's Law you know, LOL" (as if that is soooo funny.)  So since I didn't want to believe this, I looked up some stats.  There doesn't seem to be any set stats, but one site I read said 57% of FTM's deliver on or before their due date.  I think I'll run with this since I like the sounds of it better :D  Also, 3 of my co-workers delivered early with their first babies (out of 5 ftm's), so THERE to people who say you won't. :P

  • A friend told me today at a party that he son was due mid December and came early, and they thought they were going to screw him up by having him too close to Christmas.... and then looked over at me.

I actually responded that we would be happy to have this babe whenever they decide to come, but really?

  • I swear people just say DUMB things without thinking. The other whopper I had to go through was a group of girls my age telling baby horror stories (like 'once, i knew this girl who's baby was born without a bum hole") I didn't even know that was possible, and then had to google when I got home, amongst the other horrors that were shared.

Like REALLY!? Don't tell scary stories infront of pregnant women. It just makes us paranoid.

*cheers* to happy and healthy Turkey/Christmas/adorable babies!

  • That's awesome. I love this.

I actually did coach my daughter last time. "You can flip around now all you want, but pretty soon you've got to assume the position. Head down, facing the back, OK?" She did as she was told. This time I'm also going to tell #2 not to go completely bat crazy nuts in there at 39 weeks and let's possibly avoid piercing a tiny hole in the bag so that I go into very slow labor. (I don't know that my daughter did that, but she remains my #1 suspect.)

My first baby was 10 days early, so it definitely does happen - lol. I was also paranoid about my water breaking and causing a huge mess, so had towels on the seat of my car and a shower curtain liner under the sheet on my side of the bed, "just in case." Everyone made fun of me saying that never happens, but sure enough, I woke up to a "pop" and a gush at 2am.

YES!!!  I'm kinda tired of being told just the unusual and scary stuff, and none of the amazing things, along with being told whenever my ideas are "wrong" and not when my ideas are good...I can freak myself out enough being a FTM, I don't need help, lol.

  • A few things:

1- My DD was 3 weeks early.  Granted, it was an unplanned c-section, but still.  Both my brother and I were early- I was six days and he was three.  And that was all natural.  It happens.  And both my niece and nephew were early as well.  So for our family, the chances of having an on time or early baby are quite good.

2- EVERYONE tells horror stories to pregnant moms ESPECIALLY FTM. I don;t know why.  It's rather cruel IMHO.  And even this time, my oldest friend after I told him I was pg (really early- like six weeks), he proceeds to tell about his ex- wifes miscarriage and how that ended his marriage and ruined his life.  Not what one wants to hear ever, but especially not at that time.

3- There is no foolproof right way to raise a child.  There is only your way- which is correct.  It has taken MIL and while to back the eff off on it, but she gets it now.

So, last November, I had this baby right?  He was totally healthy and I had a short labor and it wasn't super painful.  He was my first, too.  OMG!  Doesn't that just freak you out for yours??!!  Lol!  (Really wish I would have been told this before DS was born...)

See, and the funny part is, 90% of people would say "oh I don't believe her" but they'll believe all the scary stuff!!

I'm a believer :D - happy, healthy and fairly painless. I like it.
