Sorry this is probably going to be long. Vito's first birthday weekend was a little rough. It started out Thursday night when his temperature shot up to 104.5. We took him to the ER where they found nothing wrong with him - gave him some Motrin and sent us home. He was cranky and miserable most of Friday.
By Saturday he was better, but then he had an accident. He was wandering around the kitchen with me while I was getting ready to cook dinner. He opened a cabinet and pulled the base of the blender/chopper over on his hand and cut and fractured his left, middle finger. I almost had a heart attack there was so much blood! I have never felt so awful and guilty in my life. I couldn't believe I let my baby get hurt. We took the blades and top part off of the stupid thing, thinking THAT is how he could get hurt. I'm still beating myself up about it even though all the doctors and everyone I know has told me these things happen. Well I would have liked for us to wait until he was a little older before "these things happened" to us.
He has 7 stitches and a splint. We went for a follow up today and it looks pretty good. The doctor said he can take the splint off next week and then wear just a bandage until the stitches are healed. He is doing well with it except that this was his "sucking finger." He always sucks his middle and ring finger to go to sleep. Naps and bedtime have been a little harry.
Yesterday was his birthday and despite being one-handed, he had a good time at his party. He did an excellent job eating his cake with one hand. He even opened his own presents. So cute. I will post a couple pictures of him below. The last straw was that I started to feel sick right before his party. By last night I had a fever and passed out on the couch. I have strep throat. Fingers crossed and prayers that none of our party guests get sick from me. I will feel terrible. What a weekend!

Re: A rough birthday weekend (PIP)
Oh my! That is a rough weekend! I would have had a heart attack, too.
The pictures are great! Glad he was still able to enjoy his birthday!
Poor buddy! Glad he's ok now, and don't beat yourself up over it. This stuff happens, truly. Looks like he still enjoyed his big day!
Hope you feel better too!
Maya got a nasty burn on 2 fingers about a week ago when she stuck her hand between the oven door and that drawer under the oven, while the oven was up pretty high. And DH and I were both right there. These things happen and they are hard to prevent. Our LO's just have an eye for danger!
Vito looks like he had fun at his party anyway, though!
