Acceptable use of duct tape?

My child appears to be a budding nudist and now that warm weather is here she sleeps in just a diaper. In theory. This week 2 out of 3 mornings she has been butt naked when we go get her with a big old wet spot in the crib. All I can think is this wouldn't happen if I added a stylish belt of tape.

Re: Acceptable use of duct tape?

  • I have friends who have done this. They don't do an entire belt with it, but they do put a couple pieces across the diaper tabs.

  • I'd do it...not like it would be harming LO at all. Although she may wake you up screaming if she can't get the diaper off.

  • It's silver, this makes it fancy and totally acceptable as a belt. I would do it, and thanks for the idea!

  • Just tell her it's her pretty silver belt! My kids would love that lol!

  • Yes.

My first DD was like that - first we used pieces over the tabs, then one piece across the front, and then a piece that ran all the way around and ended in the back.

I suggest going to Michaels where they sell zebra print duct tape and other fancy designs.  Then when you go to pull off a strip, rip the tape in half - it's the perfect width to fit over the tabs.

Before anyone goes calling me the worst parent ever. . . my budding nudist daughter ate a disposable diaper at 7 months of age and painted her wall with poop.  Multiple times.

    :shudders:

So duct tape?  I'm all for it.

Your child had a stylish zebra print belt and your walls were clean. You get mommy points for that!

  • Here's to hoping here's not a wet leaky stinky you have to get the aper off in a hurry for. Have you tried letting her just wear shorts over the diaper.

  • I think it's totally acceptable. But you could also get a cloth diaper cover with snaps and put it over the disposable and save the tape.  Something like a flip cover with snaps would be hard to undo.

If you carry those blut-tipped medical scissors, you can get a duct taped dipe off in a snap.

    :)

Another tip: Backwards onesies.  The snaps are too hard to reach.  That stopped my DD for about 20 minutes one day.

  • Very acceptable.
i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.
  • I agree with the PP that suggested a cloth cover with snaps. They are much hardet to get off. There is nothing wrong with using duct tape either.
  • Acceptable. But ditto the suggestion on a cloth diaper cover.

I'd definitely do it with disposables.  Myla knows how to undo our velcro diapers, and she's almost got the snaps.  I think our only option once she figures those out with be potty training.

Several years back, someone used to make a diaper cover that had a buckle on it.  It. was. amazing.

I can't find it via google, so I assume they don't make it anymore.  Which is a shame.

  • I've done it before with DS but it was because I ripP

Ed the tab off a diaper and couldn't let it go to waste, worked like a dream :) I used purple duct tape though, from a project a while back.

Sorry tried to fix it but I'm on an iPad :P

That would be awesome! She does know how to undo snaps so I'm not sure a snap cover would help, unless she found it fashionable. DH said this morning she complained she wanted a Mickey diaper (the overnights are Pooh) so tonight we're going to try a regular Mickey diaper and see if it's less offensive. She has a romper she probably wouldn't be able to get out of, but it runs about 80 in our house since we have limited AC so I try to limit the amount of clothing she has to wear inside.
