Re: ~*~ NB Weekly Check In & Due Date List! ~*~

  • My favorite book that I read when pregnant with DD was Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. Loved all the birth stories. I need to borrow it from the library again and re-read it.

  • Have only ready Your Best Birth and I'm halfway through Ina May's Guide to Child Birth.  So far I'm loving Ina May's Guide to Child Birth.  The stories were a little "crunchy" for me, but so far the rest has explained more about my body, labor, and birth than my doctor or anything else I've read.

  • What is your favorite NB book, blog or website?

My fav book is Ina Mays guide to childbirth.  I loved the stories at the beginning of the book.  They were all very positive and encouraging, which as a FTM are the things I need to hear.  I also liked that the second half of the book focused on the practical aspects of birth.  It was very informative and helped me get over my fears about birth.

  • I just had my daughter on 6-23 @ home in the water :)

  • "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth"  I actually read it after DD was born (was not pregnant at the time) and found it so inspirational.
  • I'd love to be added.

EDD is 10/11/12.  Planning a home water birth attended by MW.  I'm team pink.

As for favorite book or blog, I'm not sure I have one yet.  I love the following facebook pages and/or blogs: Mama Birth, Birth Without Fear, Banned from Baby Showers and Bring Birth Home.  I haven't really read any books yet.  I have a couple of parenting books I'm trying to get through before I switch gears.

  • I loved Ina May's Guide to Childbirth...but I'm looking even more forward to reading it again now that I've experienced childbirth once.

Curious if anyone has read her latest (I believe?) book Birth Matters?...I have it, ordered it while pg with my son, and never got around to reading it.  Would love some motivation and encouragement to get to reading ;)

  • I wish I'd read Ina May's Guide to Childbirth... with only a few weeks left I still don't have it and am not planning on getting it now. My favorite NB resource is this message board ;)

  • I loved Ina May's book as well.  Several others mentioned here. I'm about to check out some of the blogs PP mentioned. - Thanks for sharing. :-)

  • I'm getting ready to read a couple more, but as of right now, my favorite NB books is Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. Also, I finally got DH totally on board with having a midwife and doula instead of an OB. I feel that my chances of a low/no intervention hospital birth just went up!

  • I bought it and read it almost immediately. It's more in depth on the medical interventions and issues they can cause> I saw an interview done with Ina May about it, and she stated it was more for the friends & family of the pregnant woman, but good for anyone to read. I thought it was great. As always, she has tons of information, and it's all backed up.

  • May I be added? :D

Due 9/24/12, team blue, delivering at a hospital with an OBGYN.

I don't yet have a favorite blog or book resource for NB but my current favorite resource is my mom, who had five children. She had me and my first sister natural, my first brother started out natural but was an emergency C-section, my next brother was a natural VBAC and my youngest sister was going to be a natural breech delivery until my sister kicked her feet down during labor and was born via C-Section.

So my mom is just a wonderful resource because she's had so many different experiences and it's really comforting to be able to talk about each scenario that may happen, what her recovery was like for each and what her labor was like.

  • Thanks for doing this check-in!

I'm just getting started on our reading, but so far I really like Natural Hospital Birth.

  • I'm a lurker/newbie!

EDD: 9/23/12, Team Pink, Hospital birth with Midwife (we are delivering in the hospital her practice is affiliated with).

I've read Natural Birth the Bradley Way, and am working through Ina May's Guide to Child Birth and The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth. Ina May's stories are very motivational, and I like how the Bradley Method explains the purposes behind each feeling. It just goes well with my mindset and I am hoping to focus on thinking about my body doing what it was made to do versus the pain itself.

Planning to read The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding soon.

Just wanted to say I love this wall and how supportive everyone is of one another. I haven't spoken to many people about my plans to go natural. I'm a young mom (23) and any friends around my age with children just like to pass around their horror stories from labor, so I've pretty much kept my plans to myself in real life (except for DH and my midwife). You ladies are awesome!

  • Loved the Bradley book for NB prep.

More of a memoir, but Baby Catcher is an awesome book!  It's the personal experiences of a midwife on the west coast.  I couldn't put it down.  Just a disclaimer...probably not for NB first-timers.  She does have some pretty graphic stories in there.

  • Because I'm delivering in a hospital, I'd say Natural Hospital Birth has been most helpful. Ina May was great when I was still formulating my ideas about labor.

  • Overdue and sooo sad! Baby come out!

Favorite book would be Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laugh's. It's really funny.

  • Update for us! (jmphi): We're team PINK! Yay!

And as for favorite NB books.... I think Ina May and "The Birth Partner:Everything You Need to Know to Help a Woman Through Childbirth" by Penny Simkin. The second book really helped my DH through the labor/delivery process of our first baby and he's reading it again so as to get in the mindset for this second pregnancy. It breaks down the process of labor while also highlighting the needs of the mother during labor. He says it helped him to feel more part of the process and allowed him to understand that the pains weren't bad, but rather a tool to get the baby here. We highly recommend!
