Anybody else thinking about a tubal afterwards?

These babies wil be #2 and #3.  We had always hoped to have 2 children, and 3 is a real blessing.  And we have no plans for any more.  I am going to have a csection, so I am contemplating have a tubal done while there.  I am just curious if anyone else is in the process of making a permanent solution and what are your fellings?  I feel so young (30) to have something so permanent done even though I am 100% sure 3 children is enough for us.

  • I have it scheduled with my DR if all goes well the day after I will be getting my tubes tied. This is our 4th and we both agree we are done. I didnt really want to be a baby factory anymore and our family feels so complete now. Oh and I am 30 due a few days before my birthday. I dont think age should matter just how you feel about your decision.

I know it logically doesn't matter but it just seems to be my illogical hang up for some reason.  At least I have plenty of time to work through it.

  • It seems like a really convenient time to do it for sure... and I know plenty of people that have done it and never regretted the decision. Just for me it seems like a decision I would rather wait and see how I feel after a few years and if I still didn't want anymore... someones getting snipped ;) Good luck with your decision!

  • I was thinking about it and made the mistake of Googling side effects of TL.  I had honestly never heard of any until I Googled it.  I'm still going to ask my OB whe I go for my next appointment, but at this point I think my husband is getting done instead.

I'm 31 and this will be our third baby and my third c-section. It makes me a little sad to do something permanent, but I know four children would be unmanageable for us (financially, physically having another c-section, etc.).  If we had unlimited funds and a nanny I for sure would have more...but we don't and we never will.  So I know it's the right decision for us.

  • It seemed so final after my second.  DH had a vasectomy scheduled when I found out we were having #3.  I will be having a tubal.  I'll be 37 and this will be my third c/s.
  • If I were having a scheduled c-section, I would have a tubal...yes.  But since that is not the case, I've already told my H that he can go ahead and get the vasectomy done at annnnny time.  And I'm not kidding.  He's not coming near me after this baby comes out without some seriously effective birth control.  We are most definitely 2 and done.

  • I will be having a RCS with this one and I will be getting a tubal.  3 kids is more than enough for us.  Part of me wants to reeeeaaalllly cover our bases and have DH get a vasectomy too.

  • Just turned 30 and my doctor strongly recommended it for health reasons. He's already submitted my request to the nuns. (I deliver at a Catholic hospital, to have it done during a cesarean they have to approve, otherwise you have to do it as outpatient as the surgery center 6 weeks later). As long as all is approved, I will have a tubal when I deliver.

This is me exactly. I've been saying that if a C/S should happen (not planning on it but you never know) the first thing out of my mouth will be a request for a tubal while they're in there. :P

  • What I'm thinking of doing is after this baby, I'll be getting the Mirena again like I had w/DS. I'm 75% sure this baby is our last, but I want to be 100% sure. Once we really talk it over (after PP hormones calm down) I'll likely be getting the Essure done.

  • me!  I told my husband that the factory would be shutting down at age 35.  Well I turned 35 3 days ago so ya.. I am ready to move on from having babies to raising children.  It is a milestone in my life that I didn't ever think I would get too! So we are happy with having 3 kids.  If you aren't positively sure then I wouldn't do it to be honest.

Talk to your OB asap about it though b/c my understanding is that it takes a lot of planning and paperwork...sometimes a class or counseling...beforehand.  They (obviously) want to be sure you're not making a rash, heat-of-the-moment decision, you know?  I would think it'd be pretty irresponsible for a doctor to do something so permanent if the first they've heard of it is from a mom in hard labor facing an emergency c/s situation, u know?
