I'm still struggling to get LO's teeth brushed...he wants nothing to do with it. I feel like I'm no where near as thorough as I need to be. It made me curious about how everyone else is doing with brushing. [Poll]
I wish O would let me get the brush into her mouth more than just once a day! The one time that I actually get close enough to almost get in her mouth she completely freaks out.

DD actually loves chewing on her toothbrush (she has the baby banana kind). I try to leave it by the sink where I wash her off after she eats so we can brush then. Usually while she's gnawing on it she will let me brush it over her teeth--she thinks it's funny.
I don't use toothpaste or anything like that, though.

We brush before his first nap and before bedtime. I only recently added the second brushing, mostly just to get into the habit. We also added toothpaste recently, it's strawberry/banana from earth's best. I put the tiniest smear on there and then he loves to hold the toothpaste tube while I brush his teeth. If he gets ahold of the toothbrush, he jams it back into his mouth and knaws on it. He lets me brush for about 15-20 seconds, then he's over it.
We only just started brushing about a month ago when her first two teeth popped through, but something that has worked for us has been having a "toothbrushing" song to sing while brushing. We also both brushed our teeth with her the first couple of times and pretended it was like the best thing ever. I found she also did a lot better with the toddler real toothbrushes than trying to wipe her teeth with a cloth or something. She also likes the fruity non-fluoride baby toothpaste.
I really try to stick to twice a day. And usually I'm pretty good about it. I'm not super thorough every time, but Cole LOVES to brush his teeth himself, and have them brushed. It's super cute
Brushing in our house is a drama fest! But it's also mandatory so unfortunately I have to hold A down to brush her teeth. She likes to do it on her own afterwards do I let her with just water. We brush twice daily with a smear of fluoride toothpaste and a soft bristled brush.
We brush once a day, at night after her bath before she goes to bed. We only use water. Question about toothpaste: do they have to rinse it out? Or is it safe to swallow? I just assume DD was too young for it so I haven't looked into it at all.

We use training toothpaste for kids up to 2 years by aquafresh. No floride and safe to swallow.
Training toothpaste is "safe" to swallow because it doesn't contain fluoride. If you are goon to use fluoride you want to use a smear (just covering a few bristles) and then wipe the excess with a washcloth.

This. There's an annoying song on Disney Jr. in the mornings "wipe, wipe, wipe your paws. This is how you've got to wipe your paws." We changed the words to brush your teeth and he loves it and will let us brush his teeth for quite a while as long as we're singing it.
I'm really good at remembering to brush her teeth once a day because when I think about brushing mine after breakfast, I have her toothbrush in the holder next to mine and I just brush hers first. DH does her bedtime routine though and if I don't think to remind him, he doesn't remember and they don't get brushed before bedtime. I think I'm going to have to just try to make it a point to remember to brush hers right after dinner so I get into the routine.

SS - I aim for twice a day, but always at least 1x a day. Also, pedi told me that right now he wants me to focus on twice a day, and then work on making it good cleanings once we've established 2x a day. Ideally 2 good cleanings a day, but he's more concerned about 2 right now.
We brush twice a day- when getting dressed in the morning and when putting pjs on at night. We have the toddler banana brush and she loves it. Never had issues with brushing and she's usually very difficult with everything. Highly recommend that product.
As someone who is 30 and has ZERO cavities, I'm a stickler about brushing teeth. At first, DD was ok with it. Then around 7 months, she fought me and I sort of backed off. I posted about it and other moms said to force it on her, which I thought was mean and I didn't want to hurt her. Turns out, forcing her was the way to go. DH and I hold her arms down and just brush over her gums and teeth a few times. She screamed like crazy but within a few months, she doesn't mind at all. In fact, now that I'm home for the summer, I plop her on my lap in the morning and just brush. She doesn't mind at all. I think if you give in when they are little, you will have a battle on your hands for a long time.
It kind of upsets me that 40% of June moms are not brushing every day according to this poll. What's going on? I thought we were a progressive group of mamas here!

I was just thinking, "cassoppea isn't going to like the results of this poll!!"
We brush once or twice a day. We're really consistent about bedtime brushing and touch and go on morning. He fights me, but doesn't fight DH as much. We also do a tooth brushing song, and my rule is that we have to get through it twice before were done.
