In a 1 Bdrm......????

So, my husband and I are in a 1 bdrm apt, and I'm due Dec.27, lease isn't up til Feb 2013.....

Idk, if we should just by minimally for now and wait it out until February..

Has anyone created their nursery in a one bdrm? I always thought my 1st would have their own space.... Any ideas on how to combine baby with us?

  • Yes - ideally a separate room would be great. Everyone has told me that the baby will be in the room with us for the first few months anyway. Actually we're pretty much planning on that. I think that you'll be fine.

I'm a first timer too - I'm sure some of the other ladies who already have babies can weigh in on this more....

  • I had one bedroom with DS. I had his crib and dresser/changing table, as well as a queen bed, dresser, and shelf in the room. The closet was huge so it was easy to have all the clothes in there. It worked out fine for us.

You may not even use the crib until after you move out, we used the bassinet until DS was 8 weeks old & sleeping through the night.

Do you want to leave the complex after your lease is up? Maybe your landlord would let you switch to a two bedroom if they have them and one is available? Just a thought.

    Good luck!

  • I thought about that...just upgrading to a two bdrm, But where we are is so expensive, I wasn't planning on returning to work.... That would hurt us seriously financially. We're already crying over the anticipated bills!

This is only if you plan on co sleeping.  DD was in her room most nights from day one.

WIth that being said.. I would probably just have a bassinet and the bare essentials til you find a new place in Feb.  A bouncer, car seat and a pack and play would work out great.  IMHO

  • Creating a nursery for baby to come home to is more for you than it is for baby.  I think most people are surprised by how minimally it's used in the first couple of months.

  • We're in the same situation, but our lease is up June 2013 :( we have the baby's crib in our room, we plan on moving out of state once the lease is up hopefully to a bigger place but we have to see how it all pans out I dont really have any tips but if I think of any I will definately let you know :)

  • You can totally pull it off. Newborns take up a lot less space the first couple months than people think. And baby will never know he/she didn't have a nursery... :-)

  • Our LO slept in our room until 6 months. She was not sleeping in our bed, like PP suggested. We kept her in there b/c the risk of SIDS goes way down after 6 months. I also didn't want to be chasing up and down the hall 5 times a night. It made more sense to keep her with us until she was older and sleeping through the night.

  • A friend of mine had the same problem and compromised by making a nursery in the corner of her room. A crib with cute bedding, a matching picture, etc. It was so cute and satisfied her need for a nursery until they moved into a bigger place.

  • With our first one, we were in a 1 BR. I fixed up a cute little corner of the room with baby's bed & changing table and a cute wall-hanging over his crib. He didn't have his own room until he was about 10 1/2 mo. All of my babies have co-slept, then room shared with us for around 6 mo regardless of space.

We have a two bedroom apt, but room #2 will be remaining the office, and baby will be in the bedroom with us.

Obviously what works for every family is different, but for us, it makes sense to have our newborn close at hand.

    So it's definitely do-able!
