Is anyone sleeping in different beds?

I can barely sleep at night, and I'm constantly tossing and turning, waking my husband up each time I do.  I've tried to only move if I absolutely have to so he gets more sleep, but then I'm super uncomfortable for long periods of time.

Last night, I finally got up at 3am and slept in the guest room. It was fabulous.  I was able to stretch out, roll around as much as I wanted without fear of keeping DH up all night, and it was much cooler with just one person in the bed.

Has anyone else had to do this?  Does it bother your DH?  Mine isn't fond of the idea of us sleeping apart for the next three months.

Re: Is anyone sleeping in different beds?

  • On the weekends, my husband sleeps on the couch.  He loves staying up late watching tv or movies and he loves his couch.  It was basically what he slept on before we got married and moved in together.  He would probably sleep on it more if he didn't have to get up for work.  He can't wake up to an alarm very well.  So weekends we both get really good nights of sleep!

  • HA! Yes, we're there. I should say, however, it is because of this heat wave. Our bedroom is on the 3rd floor and it gets warm. The heat isn't too much for me, but DH needs a COLD bedroom in order to sleep. He's been sleeping in the basement for almost a week. The dog in my siggy has been my bedmate and it has been AMAZING! I get to stretch/roll around as much as I want without feeling guilty for waking him.

Normally, I would agree. But I stay home all day and he has to be at work at 7, so I feel really guilty when he doesn't get rest at night!

  • DH will sleep on the couch or the guest bed every so often if I'm really bothering him with snoring or tossing and turning.  It's not every night so it doesn't really bother either one of us.
  • We aren't mostly b/c we have a king, and a gazillion pilllows in between us, and so if/when I move around, he can't tell. Plus, he sleeps like a log, so nothing usually wakes him...

  • We start out in the same bed generally, but between his snoring and my tossing and turning we generally end up in different beds. It doesn't bother us since he has snored for so long we are kind of used to it. Doesn't mean we love each other any less, just want to be comfortable and get a good night's rest.

  • I wouldn't worry about it too much if you need to sleep in another room-it's temporary.  MH spent about the first half of this pregnancy in our guest bedroom because I was sleeping so lightly and he was bothering me.  We missed sleeping together and kept trying it again every now and then.  At some point, he stopped bothering me and he's been back in our bed for a month or more.

  • When we go to his parents house we do now because here at home we have a california king, so we can both literlally sprawl out and not touch eachother. At my IL's house they have a full size :( I had to tell him to go to the other room because there was no way that me, him, and my three body pillows were going to fit without me punching him in the face from being happily passed out while I lay in misery (we did try one night) lol

  • Unfortunately, we're in completely separate houses - he's at our new apartment working on renovations and DD, both dogs, and I are staying with my parents.

He comes out to stay with us a couple of nights a week and we're in the same bed, and I can't lie - it's nicer to have the bed all to myself nowadays!

  • This weekend, DH was OOT, and having the bed to myself was pure bliss, but we're still sleeping in the same bed because:

    1. We only have one bed

    2. I'd miss having him next to me

But after this weekend, I may insist from time-to-time (as needed) that he sleep on the couch.

    Oops.

  • We're not yet, but I'm seriously considering it. I have been sleeping terribly lately. I've never really liked our bed that much because it's too firm. Now that I'm getting further into the pregnancy, my hips hurt a lot during the night (I only sleep on my side) and it wakes me up and keeps me up. I've been contemplating sleeping in the guest room since the bed is much softer, to see how well it works for me.

  • Yes, because of my snoring!  DH will put up with it on his days off, but when he has to get to work early (which is most days), he sleeps in the guest bedroom so he can get a solid 6 hours.

  • We sleep in the same bed.  DH gets up around 6 to head to work and he sleeps like a log, except for when he starts snoring in my ear and I wake him up.  I stay home all day, so once he leaves I get a good two hours of sleep in bed alone which makes up for the lack of sleep I got that night.

  • No, we're still in the same bed.  But Every. Single. Night. I wish I could sleep in the guest room.  :(

    I feel your pain!

  • yes and no. i actually don't sleep well without DH at my back and my body pillow at my front. if we were still sleeping in our bedroom, yes, i would be sleeping on the couch or in my armchair. but since we have dragged our mattress out to the living room where the air conditioning is, we are sleeping in the same bed.

  • We have been in seperate rooms for all but maybe a week or two of this pregnancy, DH acutally prefers sleeping on the floor to our memory foam mattress. He grew up sleeping on the floor. His family is Korean and they all slept on mats on the floor. So I let him enjoy the floor all he wants these days. :o)

Same here! I did sleep on the couch a couple of nights ago though because I was so uncomfy and the bed just wasn't doing the trick. I needed to try anywhere I could so I could get some sleep. It was alright but I can't wait for it to be over with. September can't come quick enough! Gr!

  • We are mostly in the same bed.  We have a Cal King so its no problem although my SO doesn't like all the pillows because he likes to cuddle me. A couple of times he's slept on the couch because he was sick and didn't want me to get it. Only a few times has he complained about my nonstop flip flopping but he hasn't kicked me out of bed. Wink
  • I'll sleep on the couch once in awhile - the way I can prop myself up on kind of my side and my back both at once is way more comfortable than the bed at the moment.  I may switch to the recliner soon.  I think the dog takes it more personally than DH does...

  • We almost never sleep in the same bed, we discovered it`s easier to co-sleep with the kids when I was getting up nursing DS2.  We got a double bed, and DH slept in there with our oldest, and I kept the baby in with me.  That way Dh could get a full nights sleep without the baby waking him up when he had to go to work in the am, and I was home for a year.  Now, we are only co-sleeping with our 3 year old, so we take turns, he sleeps with him most of the time, and I do when he is working nights.  That will change when baby comes, because DS2 is not going to want to be woken up by a baby!  DH will probably still sleep with him when he has to work in the morning so he can get a better sleep.  Plus, we get to sneak around like teenagers, which makes the sex life a little more interesting!  :)

  • We don't ever sleep together really. My husband works overnights. But on his days off he started sleeping on the sectional with me since I cant sleep in our bed anymore.

  • We do occasionally. If I'm wide awake and know I'm not going back to sleep at 3:00 I'll get up and go sleep somewhere else. If I'm tossing and turning to the point where he can't sleep, he'll get up and sleep somewhere else. As much as I love having him next to me, I sleep much better alone right now.

  • There have been several nights I've ended up on the couch either to be cooler or to have more space. It doesn't bother either of us, though it isn't very comfy so I don't do it often.

Later on in pregnancy we'll likely make the futon in the living room a permanent bed, but in order to do that we have to use the bed cushion that is currently on our bed. It is only on our bed now because I'm a delicate pregnant flower and need all the cushioning I can get. ;)

  • I wish I had this option.  We just painted our guest room which will eventually be the nursery so it smells horribly like paint right now.  DH frequently falls asleep on the couch and I purposely don't wake him up because I love having the bed to myself for a while.

DH is a hard sleeper so my tossing and turning, or turning on the lamp to read doesn't bother him. Plus we have a king so that helps.  With DS1 I did sleep on the recliner some nights later in the pregnancy because I could not get comfortable in bed. I haven't had to do that yet.

  • I work nights, so I hardly sleep with DH. When I do I used to sleep in the guest room because he snores really bad. Since I got ear plugs I have been able to sleep with him. It never bothered DH when I did sleep in a different bed.

  • That was my fffc, but I kept missing it. I love sleeping alone right now. Dh is often sleeping on the couch, which he loves. He does miss me and complain a little, but it's currently so hard to sleep that I'll take what I can get.
