YESSS!!! This will be my first kid, so I don't know much about cloth diapers, but I am defintely determined to do it. I've always wanted to- even though I might be made fun of by my friends but oh well. I like to be eco-friendly. I have been looking up CD blogs to try to figure out what I'll need!
We do with our first and will again with our second, once he/she is out of the newborn diapers. Whoever decided that newborns would fit in cloth is a masochist, IMO! I do love my BumGenius One-Size, though!
We will with #2. Having two of them in diapers will be too expensive. We wanted to with number one but had so much to learn that I didn't want to throw something else in there.
I decided a couple years ago that I would use cloth diapers. Luckily DH is 100% on board with this! My mom thinks I'm insane though and will change my mind once I start using them. I really don't think I will though. I think it helps that DH is willing to use them. The amount of money and the fact that they are better for the environment are the major factors we're going to be using them.
We started around 6m with DD and I'm looking forward to starting CDing an infant.
However, we did part time EC with DD and I'd like to start it from the beginning with LO. DD was pooping in the toilet once we started at 6m, so I haven't have to clean up poop in forever. It's been amazing!

My mom and I were talking about it when I told her, she thinks it's a good idea. I think I might try it for at least when we are home. I really would like to try it but I need more info on it. We saw some at Traget, they looked pretty good.
Yes, we plan on cloth diapering. It is cheaper and much more ecologically friendly than disposable.
However, I'm questioning the best way to get started. I like the "starter packs" at places like Jillian's Drawers or Abby's Lane, or Mom's Milk Boutique so that we can try things out before we invest in something that doesn't work for us. If we don't have a shower, that's clearly the most economically efficient way to get started with cloth.
However, if people do want to throw us a shower, I want to register for cloth because I want people to know that's a high priority for us. I don't know if it would be better to register for individual diapers or if there is a way have one of the "starter/trial" packs on a registry? Advice?
I am! I LOVE cloth diapering my boys! We started when DS2 was 4 months old, but I wish I had starter before then. I'm looking forward to buying adorable newborn diapers! DS1 still wears diapers to bed, and I can't see that changing any time soon. DS2 will be 2 1/2 when baby #3 is born, so he may be potty trained by then, but knowing him, he won't. I might have two in diapers full time, with a third in diapers at night.
Married to J since 5/05, Mommy to T (10/08), L (08/10) and C (02/13) who was born at home.
We will be cloth diapering! We did with DD and will be again. I will be starting with some newborn Goodmama diapers with covers and profiles with covers. That's what I have liked the best so far.

I was wondering how this worked for showers and such. I absolutely plan to cloth diaper and we even have a diaper service in our area that handles everything for you. I'm also interested in trying EC, even though when I mentioned it to someone they looked at me like I was crazycakes. I'm used to it though I'm a little "out there" for most people.

I am not sure the best way, but I thought about registering at 2 places. Babys R Us, and Amazon. You can find all sorts of cloth diapers on amazon!

I am lurking here because I *may* end up here. But we use cloth and I am excited to use cloth as well for our next lo. I wanted to jump in on your question because it's really hard to register for cloth. The cloth diapers that I loved turned out not to fit LO becase of his shape. You may go through a couple of different styles before you find the right fit.

Oh Granger Wifey! We are like long lost sisters! I have about three EC books on my TBR list. I find it fascinating. I'm open to it, but not married to it either if it doesn't work out. My yoga teacher doesn't use diapers on her 2 month old now! She says it's awesome!

Thanks for this! Because of the bolded is why I like the idea of a diaper trial package from Jillian's Drawers or Abby's Lane--I just don't know if I can "register" for something like that?
I really want to register for cloth because on MH's side they like to have a "diaper raffle" where all the guests bring a package of diapers for the mom to be and are entered in a raffle. First, I think it's tacky to ask people to do that in addition to a gift. Second, I don't want all those diapers that I'll never use. Of course I could donate them if someone threw us a shower, but I'd feel really bad not using someone's gift. I feel like if we register for cloth that will hopefully send the message that we don't want (or need) mountains of disposable diapers.
We CD. We have since about 3mo before dc1 potty trained. I just couldn't talk dh into it before then. With dc2, I think we used 2 packs of sposies, one the first few days because the diapers I had pushed on her cord stump weird, and then 1 when we went camping when she was 10mo. We never used them on dc3 and we haven't on dc4 (18mo) either. We started off with gDiapers with homemade inserts. They worked fine until my Chubster dc2 was so fat at 8mo that the largest size left big red marks on her thighs. We had a very tiny budget, so I couldn't really experiment and ended up just using her receiving blankets (flannel) as origami folded flats and I taught myself how to knit and made longies for her. I haven't looked back. We love it. Well, I love it, but dh doesn't change diapers, so it doesn't matter!
We also EC. I wanted to try full time when we started with dc2, but she peed every 15 minutes I kid you not when we started EC at 3mo! It was insane, so I limitted it to when she'd wake up, before I thought she'd go to sleep, and before and after going somewhere. Eventually I started taking her every time I changed her. By 9mo she was crawling to the potty and screaming for us when she needed to go many times. She was done with diapers 100% day, night, naps, and trips at 19mo. She was probably ready 2mo before that, but I was afraid of accidents, so we used diapers for trips out and bedtime. Dc3 we started EC at 2wo and he was 100% done with diapers at 20mo. His process wasn't as smooth as dc2, but still a great experience. We started EC with dc4 the day after she was born. She's doing pretty good now at 18mo, but we do still have quite a few misses. I remembered the other day though that #2 and #3 both finished up with diapers early in my pg with the next one when I started the near constant bathroom trips for myself, so I'm hoping that will pay off for dc4 too! We did go to the store yesterday (dc 2 and dc4 and I) and by the third store (still dry from going before we left home) she was wiggling in the cart and grabbing her pants. It was so cute! She was able to wait with some coaching while we dashed to the bathroom.
EC is AWESOME, and you really can do it whatever amount is comfortable for you. And my dh loves it too. He doesn't re-diaper (I use pins and that scares him), but he will put trainer underwear on after he takes one of our LOs potty. My kids have monster booties, so by the time they're about 3mo (and 12lbs+) they fit in Gerber training underwear.

I plan on it. I wanted to with my first but didn't because DH was all "ewww, poop in the washer, gross!"
Little did he realize just how much poop/vomit/other bodily fluids would end up in the washer anyway - that's just part of having a kid. Plus, he doesn't do the laundry and barely changed diapers with DD, so this time I'm pulling out the mommy veto card and going with CDs.
I actually currently use CDs for my DD overnight (she's daytime potty trained) and I am totally addicted. Can't wait to stock up on newborn fluff.
I am so excited that we don't have to spend any money on diapering b/c we CDed tward the end with my first and then with our second but I will try to convince my DH to get some new cute printed ones
Yes! Still CDing DS and looking forward to starting with this new LO. Planning on replacing my smallest-size diaper covers, since I decided I prefer Thirsties to Bummis...but looking forward to not having to buy everything again!
