Cloth Diaper users

So I had always planned on using cloth diapers for my LO, before she was born I went to a cloth diaper class and stocked up on some Best Bottom diapers but I am bummed because LO still seems to be too small to wear them. We tried them the other day and there was still a large gap between her leg and the diaper and sure enough she pooped out of it! I just went today and bought some Imagine All In One diapers in the newborn and One size fits all and am hoping that these fit better until she gets bigger and can wear the Best Bottoms. So my question is if you use cloth diapers when did you start and what kind do you use? LO was born at 7lbs 6oz and I'm guessing weighs over 8lbs now. Thanks!

Re: Cloth Diaper users

  • We had planned to use prefolds with DD but she was born at 37w and was only 5.5lb. She also has narrow hips/pelvis so the prefolds are super bulky even though she's between 8-9lb by now. We're pretty much waiting for her to fit into one size.

  • We've used cd's since DS was about 2 weeks old and started with DD once we got home from the hospital.  I think that it is hard to get a good fit with newborns.  I don't have prefolds.  Most of my nb stash is fitteds, but I really like the AIOs that we have (BG and Swaddlebees).  Once DS outgrew the nb diapers, we used sized diapers.  I really didn't start liking the OS until he was older.

  • DS was born 6lbs5oz and we've been CDing since we came home from the hospital.  Our NB stash consists of 24 prefolds, 4 xsmall(NB Size) covers, 3 Small covers, 3 small size fitteds, 3 xsmall Bumgenious AIO's, 2 NB size Grovia's, and 4 Lil Joey's.  The only diapers that didn't fit right away were the xsmall Bumgenious ones and that's because DS has super skinny legs.

When DS fits into OS diapers we have 24 pockets....swaddlebees, Bumgenious, blueberry, whams, Kawaii....5 flip covers with 6 inserts, 1 swaddlebees cover and 2 overnight diapers....Kawaii's goodnight heavy wetters and a Thirsties fitted.

  • I CD with prefolds and covers.  I have 36 prefolds and 6 thirsties size xs.  My baby was 7lbs when born and is now 8lbs, and fits in them great.  I'm planning on sticking with the prefold and covers until she is around 10lbs or fits in the one size pocket diapers.

  • My girl is 12 days old - born at 6lbs and now is 7. The diapers look big on her, but so far they've been working well and we're so happy we chose cloth. We've been using prefolds (we have 2 dozen) with Thirsties size one covers and a Bummis NB wrap. We occasionally get poop on the cover because she has skinny legs, but so far we haven't had any blowouts where we're changing her clothes or anything.

  • We've been CDing since his cord stump fell off. We use pre-folds and Bummis Whisper Wraps, I just ordered a bunch of Thirsties Duo Wraps. They aren't OS but come in two sizes so the small size fits nicely on smaller babies.

  • We're going to burn through the diapers that the hospital gave us, then we're going to start using prefolds with Thirsties Duo wraps.  After that, we've got flips and fuzzibunz.

  • My LO was 8 lbs at birth, but most of the OS diapers I have are still a bit too long for him or too roomy around the leg holes. The only OS that works for us so far are Flips, and I love them. (We also have Bum Genius, Charlie Banana, and Fuzzi Bunz OS but they are all still too big right now.) My next favorite is a Cocalo that looks like blue jeans. It's super cute and fits great, but I only have one insert for it, so I'm trying to figure out what else fits in it well. The nice thing about it is that the rise is not too big, but it still seems he has room to grow in it. I have 4 Lil Joey's (sp?) that I like okay, but he's actually almost too big for them and we burn through them quickly since they are AIO's. I also have a newborn sized Grovia, but I don't like it b/c it has leaked every time. (I also have some leaks with the Joey's.) Right now I still have to use a mix of CD's and disposables, partly because we don't have a lot that will fit him and partly b/c DH is not confident them yet.

  • I have been using cloth diapers since the day I brought DD home, so since she was 2 days old. I've been using GMD prefolds with real nappies covers, and somtimes wool covers. I also have 4 lil joeys, but I don't like them as much as I like my prefolds. DD was 7lbs at birth and I'm guessing she's almost 8lbs now, not sure though.
