She refuses to sleep!

For the first 3-4 weeks, DD slept great all the time, wherever we put her down.  Starting around 3 1/2 weeks, it all went to hell.  Now she won't sleep during the day unless we are holding her.  As soon as I set her down she wakes up.  At night, she wakes up every 10-20 minutes and I have to rock her back to sleep.  Sometimes I don't even make it back to my bed before she is up...and she is always sound asleep when I put her down!  What on earth is going on?   Any suggestions for how I can get her to sleep on her own and for more than 10 minutes at a time?  She isn't getting any rest, and neither are we!

Re: She refuses to sleep!

  • YOu have just described my weekend.....    the only thing that has worked for us right now is using her car seat.

We take her for a ride she falls asleep and I let her sleep in her car seat.. the only way she'll sleep for a stretch of 4 to 5 hours....

    good luck!

  • I was also going to suggest the car seat or the swing.  DS would pass out for hours in anything with any kind of motion.  Our bouncy seat has a vibration thing on it and that would put him out too.  Good luck, it's rough when they're like that.

  • cameron was the same way...until we bought him the boppy popisan chair.  its been a life saver!  best place to get it is at amazon...$20 cheaper than most stores, plus free shipping on purchase over $25.

DS started the same thing. I am at a loss at what to do and I go back to work next monday. I need my sleep. The swing doesnt work. Last night he fell asleep in his moses basket and was asleep a good hour so I out the basket in the crib. He woke up 10 minutes later.

  • She's not a fan of her swing, so that probably won't work.  And she has bad reflux, so her pedi told us to avoid car seat positioning at home.  I have no idea what else to do for this child.

  • We had the same kind of night last night. He would not sleep anywhere except in our arms. It was so frustrating. The first few nights he was great in bassinet, now he does not seem to want to be in it.
