Adoption

Big News!

We have chosen and sent in our very LAST application, dangit!

We've decided to adopt in Uganda (yes, we started out adopting from Uganda). This time, we'll be working with the agency that did our homestudy. We just loved them, and their fee structure means that we can go at least 6 months before we need to have raised money that we don't currently have - such a huge help for us.

Some of you may remember that Uganda has changed its post-placement reporting requirements. The skinny is: there are two judges in Uganda that handle guardianships. One adds the crazy requirements into the decrees (self-reports every 6 months until age 18; a "heritage" trip every 5 years until age 18), but one doesn't.

Of course, we're already praying we don't get the crazy judge (look, I know he's wanting to look out for the kids, but every 6 months UNTIL THEY'RE 18?!? 3 trips back to Uganda, probably before our child is really old enough for that to be really meaningful?). But our agency also does yearly missions trips to Uganda, so we can choose to make it a special, meaningful, and fundraise-able trip as well. I know that may sound... unsavory to some, but I think it's awesome that our child could go back, not to play tourist, but to play with children who are still orphans and to bring supplies and do repairs that may be needed at the orphanage. I mean, obviously our child wouldn't be making repairs, he'd be playing with the kids and hopefully staying out of trouble. :)

BUT WE'RE EXCITED! Hopefully we'll have our orientation by the end of next week, and we can send in our I-600A!
